Question:
As of now the CRD in the 2007 Wrangler is an export only model. If the CRD were to be offered in the domestic model, how compelled would you be to buy one?

Choices:
I would definitly buy one as soon as I could
Probably/good chance I would
Maybe after some investigation
I'd rather stay with the gas engine
I'm disgusted by the new TK and won't buy one either way

I'd like to have one but with higher hp and torque. Something in that 300+ range Eek would be great!

I have a feeling that the CRD with a little help from banks could pull that off. I guess they haven't released anything too nuts for the libby one yet given its limited availability and the lack of aftermarket interest. You know that would be different if they gave the 2.8 to us Smile

Remember Dennis, its got a turbo, you can do magical things with a turbo.

Bring it on DC.. 'PRR, Inc' needs one for R&D.

Yep! I'm sure Banks could do wonders with it. Hmmmmm, do you think they could pull off a V8 sound out of a 4cyl CRD? Big Grin

Nah, remember there's no replacement for displacement! Big Grin Big Grin

Weight is the only thing keeping me from dropping a chev502 or a ford460 into my Tj. (for now)

Well, maybe the fact that too much horsepower in such a small package might not be a good thing. Confused

The pro's and con's of a diesel.
Pro's: torque, Good fuel milage, fuel injection.
Con's: Fuel not available everywhere, Diesel cost more than gas, Diesel engine cost more to purchase, Cost more to work on.

Now what was the question again? Confused

The gas and diesel debate goes on... Many say they would go diesel but the fuel is too expensive. I say this: my dad and I own a Ford F-350 pickup, with the 7.3L diesel engine. After owning and seeing that truck work, I personally will never own a gas truck. On that note, I pay around $2.45 a gallon for diesel when it's thirsty. For the efficiency that you get, the power and torque it makes, and the work it can do, it only makes sense to have a diesel.

The Jeep Liberty diesel gets around 500 miles per tank, which equals about 25 miles per gallon combined highway/city. The I-6 gets around 15 combined. The savings add up with diesel despite the higher cost. Not only do you get more mileage, the engine has a longer life, is more powerful, and is cleaner burning. Especially with green fuels. People in the south actually distill their own diesel fuel from waste cooking oils with simple grocery store ingredients. Here's a link if you're curious: http://journeytoforever.org/biodiesel_make.html#3choices

The price of diesel is all about supply and demand just like everything else. A few years back, I remember diesel was about 10 cents cheaper than regular unleaded. Don't forget that a similar grade of "vehicle diesel" is also used as heating oil. It's basically the same thing, except dirtier. For years truckers would burn heating oil in their tractor trailers because it was essentially the same thing but even cheaper (because it had no federal road tax). Winter time always drives up the cost of diesel anyway. It usually comes down when the cold season is over. So don't be scared of prices just because you've been looking at them during the winter months.

Besides, nothing sounds more hardcore than a deep-growling diesel angine at idle. Even flooring it and hearing the turbo make its whistling noise is awesome. And as mentioned in a previous post by alosix I believe; with companies like banks, that little 2.8L 4 cylinder is a lot more potent than you'd think. My friend owns an old Dodge heavy duty truck with a 6 cylinder Cummins diesel. He upgraded it with some Banks exhaust, intercooler (cools the intake air for more power and efficiency), and radiator stuff. His power gains were enormous and after driving it myself, I was a believer in Banks aftermarket diesel performance parts. In fact, a few goodies are on their way for me and my dad's Superduty.

Diesel all the way,
Mark
