Noticed that my IROKs have a nice gouge in the sidewall, just at the base of the tread... Deep enough that the belting shows.

Anyone find a fix for this kind of issue?

They can put a man on the moon and bring him back - why not a fix for simple rubber?

Thanks.

Maybe there is some heat gun or instrament that can melt some rubber back on(but I don't know). I saw a post where a guy got a thing to fix cuts in tire(like a rubber vulcanizer). If it holds air then you can wheel it rock crawling, but I would NOT use it on the road.

In my opinion I would not drive on a tire that has a gash on the sidewall. It is not worth taking the chance of driveing down the road at 70mph and having a blowout. A blowout and totaling your jeep, if not killing you,(because a jeep with a 8" lift and 36" IROKs will roll) is not worth it over a $230 tire.

Wise words...

Honestly if it were a mere tear or a little bit of white showing I would drive it but if you can see the belting and an area of white bigger than 3 inches i would be worried and there is really not much you can do except 'vulcanise' it which i dont know anyone personally to do that. If it gets really bad, stick a tube in it and forget about it.

I appreciate your concern about rolling at 70 mph. The thing you missed is that this is a 4-cyl, not a 4-L. No way I reach 70 mph anymore. Maybe 70kph. Roll Eyes

Ok, rolling at 50 would hurt too.

So far the tire is holding up and the hole getting no larger.

A little off topic, but with 4.88s and 35s on a 4bagner i can still hit 85, in 4th gear. 5.67s and 37s are goin in later this week. so i still should be able to get pretty high, but use 5th too!
