anyone have the 4.7 stroker kit for there tj/yj? my motors on the last leg and oil pressure is at about 7 so its about time for an upgrade motorwise. i dont believe in replacement i like upgrades so here i go again!
practicality points me to a stock rebuild or a 4.0 out of a newer tj for about 1500-2000k. i can get the sweet arsh 4.7 complete dyno'd motor from mepco for 5250.00. then i could sell my motor for about 900+- to make up for the loss. i'd then have about 300hp at the wheels and be hella pimping and even so cal legal. what you guys think? engine'

i would LOVE to buy a long block and do the rebuild in-garage but im gonna be moving into a townhouse/apt with a garage that is minimal at getting my jeep into it at all. i may have to lower the jeep a little actually. good news is that the jeep is now paid off Big Grin

update:
i'm now considering doing a head swap. i can get a used head for my yr for 150.00. i'll then rebuild it for a few hundred and drop it in and hopefully it will fix my valve, lifter ticking problem and my oil pressure issues will also be corrected.

yeah already plan on checking the oil pressure switch ASAP. jeep runs fine. doenst overheat. does tick a bit. power is just not there anymore. a newly rebuilt head wont hurt anything anyways.. plus i can beef it up a little more.

My 4.7L stroker cost about $2800.00. Of course I was knee deep in the build and did the strip and install myself. $5250.00 sounds a little overpriced. I don't know how it would work with shipping but I would call Terry.

oil pressure is better w/the new switch but its still low and im getting cylinder knock and valves are ticking and the power is just lagg'n. i was considering doing a build up and doing alot of it myself, but since i live in an apt environment now i cant really do any garage work like i have done in the past. heres my new plan.

save my a$$ off and get this bad boy , (the 4.6 version) sell my motor for what i can and with the difference get the motor built up new again with 136 amp alt, high flow water pump, a good ignition, bored throttle body, and banks header. should afford me about 280 horses..the best part is i'll have a NEW everything under the hood.

hey how bad do you want to do the rebuild? I am about 99% sure I am doing a Kit in to my 4.0 out of the XJ I just bought with a/or a few, bad rod bearings. Knocks BAD!

Well I will be pulling it out and doing a rebuild and might be able to do two at the same time. I would charge ya a little bit though of course.

So far in parts I am looking at 750 - Kit, 149 rebuilding my head at a shop, 255 in full machine work, and about 300-400 in misc parts. So total for a nice fully rebuilt stroker about 1500. SO if your interested in getting the same thing done maybe we can work something out.

Let me know

Yeah well after doing a cost matrix right down to the injectors and fuel pump and all the small crapola, I am just going to do the waynes rebuilt long block from kragen. At 1275 and with the 18mo unlimited warr. I cant go wrong. Then add in a RV type cam and a few small perf mods. along with the atlas 4.3:1 and I think I will be fine.

well after several months of debate and readings(much) i have decided to do the build my self ground up. then sell the motor in my rig several months after i do the swap so as to be sure that it runs good. i just got a head and am building that now. i've sourced a shortblock for 200.00 and can sell most of the internals to actually maybe come ahead. then i will bore it 0.020 over and the rest can be seen on this forum in a link that localrich has created in the tj section.. total cost for the long block is about 1800. accessories is about 1200. thats head to toe new everything from pcv valve to oil pan plug.
