Can Anyone tell me what is leaking from my TJ's Transmission and how much it would cost to get this worked on by the Jeep Dealer? I can't seem to tell if it is tranny fluid or oil or what. I seem to be getting some type of leak from where the transmission is hooked up to whatever towards the front where the oil pan meets the trans. What I want to know is WHAT is leaking and wether it is a hard fix or not. Thanks from a non-mechanic type.
It won't let me post the pic, says its too big, Can someone please tell me how to post a pic on here or email to receive it, I really need help with this. I didn't think 3mb was all that big for a pic. If anyone wants to email me I will send them the pic of my Trans. Thanks. melvinjensen@hotmail.com 1999 Jeep Wrangler Sport TJ (Intense Blue). What color is it? Red? Brown? Red would be tranny fluid. Brown... well, I'll give you two guesses.

I wasn't sure about the color, I was looking myself for the slightest bit of Red, but to me it looked more like oil, but it was on the bottom primarily of the Trans? That why I was confused. Now my oil pan has taken abuse, but I have had this problem before any dings or dents to it, it has just been annoying me lately whether this is a serious issue or not. I will try to take some Low Res pictures of it tonight to post on here. Thanks.

Host your pix at photobucket.com, it's free. Reduce them to roughly 640 x 480 and they will fit on the board screens nicely. Please don't post a fuzzy picture with an apology like some folks do, it's a waste of everybody's time.
The thing in front of your tranny is likely the dust shield attached to the bell housing guessing from your description. It's very common for Jeeps to have a leak from the rear main engine seal, which shows in the area you mentioned. Once you get your picture up we'll be able to tell better. Usually, if it's a small leak, then it's not worth the trouble trying to fix it as it's roughly a 50/50 shot you'll seal it completely. It's a two piece seal you have to slide in around the crankshaft, and the entire job is a royal pain in the a$$! Good luck, Mark To boldly go where we're too stupid to know any better.
