Hey Y'all, sorry but im having some troubles installing my CB in my Jeep. After doing some research I have come to the conclusion that wiring the power through the cigarette lighter is the best way. Is this true? Got any comments to help me along... Please!

Depending one what year TJ you have (I'm thinking TJ from the avatar) there tends to be 2 extra wires coming from the fuse box under the dash. 1 is always on, the other ignition on.

I tore out the cig lighter and put the female end of my wx-75 through there, fits good. I used the aux fuse line alosix is talking about.

Pull your glove box door off as if you are getting to the fuses. Once off, look around to the left in the area behind the A/C fan controls. There will be two loose wires with tags. The tags will tell you which one is always on and which one is ignition on.

Awesome man thanks. So just connect there and ground it anywhere?

The best ground will go to the chassis. Either go to the body part of the firewall behind the dash or to the steel frame also behind the dash. In either case, make the best connection possible by exposing a clean metal surface to attach the wire to. If you can, solder a connector on the wire rather than crimp. Also, don't share the ground of any other accessory. It may cause noise problems.

There are plenty of CB shops in Ga. Just go to your closest Truckstop and within sight there will be a CB shop. Take it there and they will install it with the proper coax and antenna. Set the swr's so you won't burn up the finals in the radio.

Y'all got any idea's on how to mount the antenna without drilling?

What type of rear bumper do you have?
Now I'm one to absolutely refuse drilling anywhere in the body that I don't have to and there is no reason you should have to just for an antenna. Two good common places are on the bumper tire carrier or on a brake light bracket. Teraflex offers a light bracket. I can't get their site up but here's a link to the braket. Teraflex CB antenna bracket Where ever you decide to mount it, make sure it's grounded well. The brake light bracket may be the easiest because you can run an extra ground strap behind the brake light to a good chasis ground. Do you have an antenna yet? Firestick has a real good top loaded antenna. The advantage is that it transmits through the top 6" or so allowing you to use a very short antenna. That's all you'll need to be above your rig to transmit and receive well. Regardless of the antenna you go with, make sure you have it adjusted. You'll hear from others that theirs worked fine out of the box but you can destroy your electronics and you won't get optimum use of your equipment. A cb shop can do the adjustment for you. Takes about 5-10 mins and only about $10 avg.
