I am wondering if a TJ dana 30 carrier will fit a YJ dana 30? I am getting ready to put 3.73's in the front of my YJ (where 3.07's are now) and I can find TJ 3.73 carriers pretty easy on here or ebay. but not many YJ ones. I know the TJ gears wont work because they are low pinion, but will the carrier? Thanks.

The carriers do interchange between 30s that I've seen. The only possible hang up is that some YJs had a C clip on the passengers side.
I just didn't use it when I installed the air locker in my 95 and everything worked well.

Since the gears also interchange, you could even put the YJ gears into the 4 series carrier that D30s use for 3.73 and higher numeric ratios.

Dick, are you talking about the spider gears or the r&p? The ring and pinion gears wont interchange between YJ and TJ. What is the 4 series carrier you speak of? I didnt know there were diffrent ones. Thanks for your help.

my thought was since the yj was reverse and the tj was standard that the gears are different. the spiders ar probably the same and the case work the more i think about it since it really matters on the ratio split not the pinion hight. you should be fine with a tj case and yj gears.

THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS!!

No, the ring and pinion won't interchange for a number of reasons. The pinion is a different length and as stated the teeth slant the other way. The carrier and the internal parts are the same.

The carrier series relates to the gear ratio you intend to use. Carriers that are intended for use on 2.73 up thru and including 3.54s are on what we refer to as a 3 series carrier on D30s. 3.73 up thru 4.56 (or 4.88s) are normally mated to a 4 series carrier. The internal gears are the same on both.

For verification, look at one of the aftermarket carrier makers. Use ARB as an example. They offer the same carrier for, say, 3.73 in a CJ, YJ, or TJ, etc.
