I have a friend with an H2, riding on stock 33" tires who wants to do a bit of off-roading, yet still drive his rig mostly on the street.

To do this he wants to lift the rig 2" and step up to 36" or 38" tires. The rear looks like a simple spring spacer deal. The front is IFS, and I am a TJ guy... How would you suggest this lift is best accomplished?

Can you twist the tortion bars for that much lift without breaking them - or something else?

He's been offered a deal on a 6" lift, but that is much more than he's interested in.

Thanks.

I'm not a hummer person, either. But as I understand it, its just a Tahoe. I would think that would be the place to begin looking for suspension ideas.

As for how much lift he needs, math doesn't work on it. You generally can't go up 2" and then add 2" bigger tires.

Not much on Hummers either, but...twisting up the torsion bars is NOT the way to lift an IFS vehicle. This will put undue stress on the torsion bar, and cause some not-so-friendly steering geometry problems. I'm not a fan of coil spacers (or leaf spacers) either. Hard to believe with all those *short busses* out there that somebody doesn't make a decent 2" inch lift for it. For that matter, 2" of lift seems to be a bit shy for running 36's. But if he leaves all the sway bars and stuff connected, it may be fine. Maybe I'm spoiled to all the travel my YJ has! Big Grin

I have a friend who is wheeling an H2 regularly with 37's, no lift. He gets only very mild rubbing once in a great while.

35's will fit with room to spare.
