hello,
Just wanted some ideas on how to build a cool roof rack for my 1/6 denali. I have already been through two racks made of thick metal wire and paint, but i would like some more ideas if there are any out there. I do not like the style I built and want something more Safari looking.

Thanks!

I have found the small aluminium tubing to be quite easy to work with for bumpers and stuff, maybe thats your answer. brushed finish, never rusts. I may knock one up and see what it looks like.
I have replaced the chassis rails and rear bumper with ally to gain clearance on my 1:6 landrover.

PS anyone got a 1:6 jeep of any kind laying around??
I want to swap the landrover shell out, couldnt find a 1:6 jeep so ended up with it!!

I would use the channel for the sides and the tubing for the cross bars. That way you can just squeeze the end of the tubing a little to fit into the corresponding size channel. I do have abrazing torch but I havent had to use it on the R/c yet Smile yet.
That gives my another idea, How about 1/4 or 3/8 rigid copper plumbing pipe? It is available in all kinds of lengths with fittings readily available from any hardware. You can get 90' T pieces 45's all kinds of options. then just either solder or glue it in and paint it.
Copper is very soft though if you roll it over alot or use it for a handle. (thats how I ripped the plastic one off the landrover) I just run a lightbar now (cut the roof rack behind the front mounts)

A "real" safari rack should come from the chassis or at least the bumpers. This is for climbing up ontop of , if it were just a roofrack, your roof would cave in when you loaded er up!!
Let me know if you want to go this far. If it is an SUV shell, this would be cool , like come up the seams at the front of the front door, up to the roof rack, then attach to the outermost corners of the rear bumper, now that would be a cool handle too if your body mounts are strong enough
