Santa brought my son's new 1:6, and two days later after some mild wheeling with it, it stopped responding. The steering still works, but there is zero response to the motors to drive the thing. What happened?

Batteries are fully charged, no loose wires, it hasn't been abused (nothing it wasn't advertised to do)... There was an odor of hot electric when it died.

At this point, I'm planning to take it back to Toys R Us and getting a replacement, unless it's something simple you guys have run across before.

They are reasonable toys for the price, but New Bright could/should improve quality of certain bits and pieces e.g. steering.

Well, I was afraid that it was something catastrophic. That really bites. I bet we don't have an hour on the thing. Oh, well, I'm gonna take it back. I've talked to my son, and he's willing to scale down to the 1:10 ... which means that I can take back the big boy and get TWO 1:10s to replace it! The 1:10s are on sale at Toys-R-Us for $45!

I think it would be a wise decision for dad and son each to have a Rockcrawler, don't y'all?

I'm going to ToysRUs today. I can't find the 1:10 crawler online anymore - not at $45, anyway. We'll see what they have in stock.

Well, I couldn't find one anywhere, and the kid had to have his Christmas present, so I wound up getting my money back at ToysRUs and buying a truck from Radio Shack. It's not a crawler, but it's still a lot of fun. The thing is 4x4 and goes 11mph - just jumps over most obstacles and keeps on trucking. My son really likes it.

probably not the same one, but I got an f150 like 5 xmas's ago that has 4wd, and goes 1200 feet per minute. Very fast for a truck like that, but couldnt crawl over a rock if it tried. and it did. lol
