It's finally here and I can't believe I've kept it under my hat all this time. New Bright toys has begun distributing the 1:10 scale Jeep Wrangler Rubicon radio control Rock Crawlers.

We are very proud to be a part of this and ROCKCRAWLER.com is all over the Jeep and packaging.

We are dedicating this section of the boards to discussions about the New Bright Rock Crawlers so feel free to post pics of yours doing it's thing on the rocks, discuss mods, or whatever.

You can find these at your local Toys R Us and Target.

Enjoy!

so does the suspension on these things actually flex like on a real crawler/custom built rc crawlers?

are they geared low like a real crawler?

or is it just made to look like a crawler??

It flexes as much as you can expect for an $80 r/c Jeep. It does not have a low gear Frown

It's a toy really. It will do fine on the rocks within reason but it's not going to compete with your $600-800 custom crawlers. This is a mass-market r/c.

Okay so this picture from the other page:

Shows Nitto Tires:

This picture from this page:

Shows Tractor Tires:

Is this a difference in the Scale? 1:6 or 1:10 or perhaps the second pic (the one on this page) is a pre-production picture? Just curious as to the differences... (The blues look different too... maybe Fabtach came on latter so they changed the Blue to Fabtech Blue???) I mean even the sticker placement is different between the two... Big Grin So which one should we expect to get if we spend the bones?

I saw that at Toys R Us the other day and almost bought one. I've been wanting one that was actually 4wheel drive. But since it's not geared as a crawler, I can't afford to fork out $99.00 for one. When I had my Liberty, I bought a New Bright KJ that's just rear wheel drive, and no poking fun, but it performs like a 2wheel drive KJ in real life. Too high geared and can barely go in the grass, let alone on any amount of grade.

Guess I have to wait until I can afford a Nitro RC crawler. Which will be never!!!!

Okay, so I take it all back!!

Back in college my first job was working at Toys R Us building bikes. I enrolled in the Employee Stock Purchase plan and bought a few shares of stock over the years. I never did anything with it... this week I got a check in the mail due to a corporate stock buyout. I got $70 and change... First thing my wife said... "I guess we're going to Toys R Us, huh?" Well, since I read on here the Rockcrawlers were sold elsewhere, I went to Target. $59.99 later and I was at home plugging in the charger to wait 4hrs to play, ahem, test it out I mean. I started looking at the KJ battery and it's the same 9.6v. The cool thing about the Rockcrawler is that it has both kinds of battery pack connections. The new packs have the contacts on the side you just click in place. The old packs have wires and plug connections. My KJ is the old plug type. I just charged it last night so I threw it in there, turned it on and it worked!!

Yes, it doesn't have a high/low selector... it doesn't need it. The pistol grip controller is like the more expensive ones that adjusts the speed the more you pull the trigger.

It does crawl!! I had to try it out, so I threw down some firewood and did a log roll. Pretty cool fun for $59. The springs could use some softening though. I may have to look for different ones at a hobby shop.

I'll get pics soon. I told my wife I was going to take off the spare tire and remove the windsheild alltogether and paint the roll cage... she thinks I'm nuts. Of course I am!!

Later,
Keith

Oh my god!! I was going to college at Missouri Southern and worked at the Joplin store. It was only 6months old when I started there. I loved it. I could ride the bikes around the back stock room when I was done building them and played the video games on my breaks.

I actually saw the price at the Springfield, MO store. I didn't do a price scan to make sure though.

well, i got mine at target for 60, and have had so much fun wheeling and modifying it!! im not one to leave anything stock... so i started by cutting 3 turns off each spring. the softer rate and lower height helped a lot, but it needed more. so i drilled new holes closer to center for the front shocks to mount up front, and that helped a lot. THEN, i decided it need a 4link rear like my jeep, so i got some allthread, eyeloops and zipties!!! haha JBwelded brackets to the axle, and linked it up! oh my god it kicks *** now! haha i had ot put on limiting straps because the axles would flex 90degrees to eachother and it would get stuck like that! when i built the links, i also did a 1" wheelbase stretch. my buddy left his mostly stock and mine climbs so much better with the stretch.
oh yea, they have 4 band selections on the jeep and the controler so you can have four of them running at a time and they wont interfere with eachother! GREAT FEATURE!
haha next step, 3link front with a track bar!

if you have any questions or want more pics, just ask., but i HIGHLY recommend buying one!!! they're great fun for when your real rig is broken or you dont have time to wheel!

the tires are a good soft rubber, but not soft enough to conform... i actually cut slits in the tires inbetween the lugs so they would flex better, then we cut off every other lug on the edges, and they grab a lot better now. my buddy took a dremel and siped his lol.
keep on jeepin!
