Hi there,
I didn't see a section for NewBright vehicles other than the Rock Crawlers so I thought that I'd put my post here. In case anyone is interested, I picked up a NewBright 1:6 Tricked Hummer today. If you can still find any left, they are on sale at Walmart for $49. Be sure to get the 19.2V guy and not the 9.6V unit with dinky wheels and sounds. I Bought this truck for my kid, but boy did I ever have a blast using it. The truck is very powerful and ran for a real long time. If anyone else has this truck I'd be interested in hearing about possible mods. I did notice that the turning radius is not that great but it was a blast seeing the huge truck bounce around on the yard. The suspension itself is mostly for show but the wheels are still pretty large. I would personally want to see some more clearance like the Nylint Crawlers have. I'd like to get a Lylint crawler too but I'm not willing to shell out the dough for it just yet. These RTR units have really come a long way and although they are a bit cookie cutter styled, they've come a long way since I was a kid. (I still remember paying $100 for a Tx and $60 for a charger). |

If I get a chance I'll try to take some pix tomorrow. I also have a camera I can mount to the hood which should be fun.
(I'll bet I get asked if I charged the battery when the kids get home For now, I'll try to include this larger image of the stock photo form the New Bright site. |

I can't tell, does it have an actual functioning suspension or is it one of those "roller skate" jobs with 6" of body lift. It looks cool.

I'll try to get some more detailed pictures for you. Each shock has two real springs but is made (in a cheap way) to look like the two springs are actually four. You can likely see some of that in the stock photo.
The suspension does work since it bounces around on the yard real nicely. The biggest issue with it is the fact that the battery compartment is on the bottom itself, so trying to figure out if I can raise the whole thing up and get the front wheels to tilt more might not be so simple. Course' it's plenty of fun as is, but I'd like to see it do some good climing too. It was likely built more for speed than slow torque though. |

Questions:
Does it have 4Wheel drive? Does it have two motors?? Does the suspension do more then bounch around? If it has 4 Wheel drive, I'm sure most of use would just buy it, rip the axels out and 4 link a real suspension under it. Would be cool. Don't really like hummers but it would be cool. - Jeff |

I didn't get a chance to run the Hummer today, but I did take a better look at its construction.
From a hacking perspective it's likely only good for the battery/motor and electronics. You'd likely do away with all of the chassis. Sadly, it is not a 4wd unit. One motor, rear mounted. I'm not sure if the shocks are stiff internal springs of if they are air filled but they do a real good job aside form the fact that the outer housing is built for looks. First picture is the front shocks (the smaller outer shocks are the total fakes). (hmmm.. doesn't looks like I can attach more than one file here. I'll try to post the other pics separately.) I'd be interested in hearing more about the New Bright rock Crawler. Is it 4wd, does it have two motors? (also are there units that have one motor and gearing that runs to the front tires?) - Ken ![]() |

Next photo...
This one is of the whole side of the body. I'm not certain what the function of the bottom cross members are. Looks mostly for show. ![]() |

And lastly...
This is a nice shot of the entire bottom. The battery just clips into the bottom of the housing in the center. All in all, I'd say that this tough fellow was bilt for speed not for rock climing. It does a great job at moving around on my lawn and through some thick brush. (I'll hopefully get some video done soon). The powerful motor and large tires certainly help. My Tamiya hornet was built for offroading too but it's little tires and low power make it dog slow trying to navigate on my yard. I am getting in an old blackfoot, so it will be interesting to see how that guy performs and weather I'll keep it or try to sell it off in the end. Thanks. ![]() |

looks cool.. yes, they do have 4wd.. one motor per axle.. I've never heard of one motor powering 2 axles before.. but like everyone says.. never say never!

lol you know if you actually look at some of these 400 dolla RC cars they have driveshafts and stuff....
And from the looks of things that has a nice chassis compared to the NB block of plastic. - Jeff |

NB needs to wake up and beat the living crap out of Nylint's 1:6.
A 1:10 model of a comp buggy with 280 motors and low gearing, like the dude wiht the brass gears... some actuall axel shafts you screw to not metel wiht plastic hublink stuff... some real stearing. $100 price and yeah it would kick some major *** - Jeff |

I've taken a few pictures of the the Hummer in action but I could use some suggestions for a website where I can post them so I can just link them into my posts. Let me know.
I'll also mention that today turned out of be a lucky day for me (at least I hope so). You won't believe what I found... yep, a Nylint 1:6 crawler and it was priced at $49 too. (I think some vendors are concerned about holding on to large items for too long and lower their prices. Anyway, I decided to snap it up seeing how it has the 4wd and high/low gearing. I'm still waiting for the battery to charge up but I'm going to guess that the Hummer is going back to Walmart so I can store my Rock Crawler somewhere. I think I'm more excited than my kids are :-) Yep, looks like the RC bug is back. Is there such a thing as a quick charger for 12 Volt batteries? I guess that I'll have to switch forums and start posting in the Nylint one, but I'm interested in hearing any comments on the unit from people who have it. The good, the bad and the suggested mods. Thanks. - Ken This message has been edited. Last edited by: Unwired, |

only reason I can see you switching to the Nylint forum is for tech stuff.. because we'll still welcome you even if you mod up your Nylint. This group of people is top-notch. And its good to see something different..

I figure there is enough of us with both crawlers to stay here ant discuss the Nylint. Don't forget this website "sponsored" the NB, which is why the forums only mention it, but I don't think anyone will mind if we talk about other crawlers.
I'm not a big fan of R/C crawler(whats up with their attitude?) but the mods sticky is pretty cool. |

yea, the people at rccrawler.com are mostly jerks. they hate newbrights.. I guess because the newbright crawls better stock than most of their $200+ custom rigs... who knows. I really want a nylint for the axles, because I built a massive 1/6 buggy out of my old erector set, and the nb axles just dont have the oomph to move it, even with a radio swap and a 1600mah battery... and people want WAY TOO MUCH for even a set of old used clodbuster axles.

RCCrawler.com is definitely more hardcore than this forum and there are a few arseholes there, but there are also some very helpful people and a lot of good tech. It's kind of like Pirate4x4.com to JeepsUnlimited.com for those of you who are into real rock crawling. The forum culture is more hard nosed and a little less tolerant of the same old newbie questions over and over and over. However, the site owner recently gave the members a blast over too much flaming and has threatened to come down on those who continue to do so.
As far as Nylints go, I'd guess that a lot of those guys who now have custom hobby class crawlers (that btw, cost a whole lot more than $200) may have started with a Nylint or like me, a new Bright. There will always be clowns who have more money than brains or manners that think every crawler that does not require monthly payments is not worth owning. Don't let them get under your skin. Buy whatever turns your crank and have a great time with it. Keep an open mind though - some of the advise that you may not like to hear comes from guys who have spent way to much time and money modding their Nylints only to find that they still don't perform as they would like and that when they brake, spare parts are not readily available. |

Way I see it, if your gonna buy a Nylint 1:6 you might as well start building a real RC.
You can build a rail buggy for less then $50. Good pair of clod buster axels online for under $100. And all the **** to make it run for like $80 or less then a battery back and you have your self a rc. Now of course it wont be anything fancy... but later on down the road you can start upgrading it. Thats the fun. - Jeff |
