I just picked up a couple of the NiMh batteries on clearance at WalMart for $7 each. They were marked to $11 but the tag under said $7 so thats what I got them for. I havent gotten them charged yet so I don't know how much better they are, but at 1250mAh they ought to be better than the crappy 600s that came with it.
I to buy at walmart ( QUEBEC PQ ) a battery NIMH 1250….. it functions longer. I pays $20 ...I says as you ...600.. are not very very powerful .... HUM ..HUM ..HUM ..$ 7 ...ITS A BARGAIN ..TEX loulou
Let us hope that our forum (the only) for TOY + MODS = BETTER TOY .. will always ((living ))
nickel metal hydride "NiMh" batteries only advantage is the fact that you don't have to drain them completely before recharging to get the most life out of them, unlike nickel cadmium "NiCd". the most important part is the Milliamp Hours "mAh" which is basically how long the battery will last on a full charge. so basically, yea, you should get at least double the runtime of the old batteries. and dude, where at in walmart is that 1/20th scale crawler you saw and where are those batteries? I'm going up there this weekend, haha.
These I got in Grafton WV. The little miniCrushers should be available in any of the "supercenter" WMs but not in the regular ones.
I think I'm going to make a map to all the cool R/C stuff in every WalMart I go to and make them PDF files so you can download them I know for sure they don't have the NiMh batteries in the Southpointe Center WalMart because thats the reason I went in there in the first place, but the Minicrushers they should have. I go back tuesday so I'll have the afore mentioned map up by wednesday morning
Nevermind about the MiniCrushers, they're crap. Very good design, but terrible electronics and severely overgeared and underpowered. They also don't sell upgrade parts in the US like it says on the box. I'm either going to take it back or just use the axles and lower part of the transfer case to build a scale 1/24 '70 Chevy C10 trail rig.
In case you're wondering, I also got the Chevy plastic model at WalMart here in Motown in the isle opposite the R/C cars beside the airplane stuff on the second to bottom shelf
that's what I was wanting one for, anyways, the axles and transfer case to build something small, so that works out great. I might just get me a 1/18 nylint, i'll have to see when I get there.
I don't have my original New Bright chassis anymore so I can't check, but you can build a 2500mAh 9.6 volt NiMh battery pack using Energizer AA cells. Just hot glue a row of eight of them side by side with the + terminal of one battery to the - terminal of the battery beside it. Then solder them all in series and connect a couple leads with a standard battery connector. It should fit in the New Bright battery box and give you over three times the run time as the stock battery.
Cheap battery packs can build 2300mAh rechargeables for around $22 each, which is cheaper than I can do it for. If I get this thing where I want it, I'll have them build me some.
Here's my 2 cents (actual value may vary). I have 4 plain NiCd packs: the 2 that came with the Jeeps (mine and my son's) and 2 Nikko ones I got at a toy store for $11 each. The smartest thing I ever did for the NB was buying the Radio Shack quick charger. I can crawl as long as I can stand, and the charger just keeps 'em coming. A buddy came over with 2 more packs and another quick charger and even with 3 of us running at the same time, the chargers kept up for hours. I even let the hot packs cool a bit before recharging and still no problem! Best bang for the buck available.
ahh i ment to say i plan on getting some of those nimh batteries. i have only a few questions. like one are they able to work on the normal charger that they newbrights come with. what type of quick charger do u have flapding. Thanks

The charger I have is the quick charger from Radio Shack. It was $39.95 and kicks out a charged battery in around 20 minutes. The chart on it says it should take 40 but it never has. I like that you can't overcharge the packs and it will charge just about any RC packs so if you have other rigs that use different packs, this will handle them all.
Runtime seems to be way better than the NiCads. My 2300s are being built and should be here in a week or so. I only bought two, but my new ESC can handle 9.6v so I guess I need to get a few more. I have used a charger meant for subC packs to quick charge these in 20 min. We have even done the 6v packs from other cheap cars and it took all of 7 minutes before they started to heat up.
