Does anybody know if it is possible to swap out the NP 249 with a NP 242? And if so how much modification is needed(driveshaft replacement, shifter replacement)Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the help I will research and see which one is the way to go. Parts are hard to find around here.

I have a 93 grand with the V8 and I swapped in a 231 from a 87 cherokee(I think it was a 87)I had to swap the input shafts.

I have a NP 231 on its way so here we go!Thanks for all the help.

This has been a long time coming, I received my new NP 231 and it took me about a half day to swap it in. The only problem is the message center 4X4 indicator wont work. Switch not compatible with wiring harness. Dont need it anyway. Swap was simple and cherokee runs better and the gas mileage increased dramatically.

My message center doesn't work either.
