I am replacing my AMC, TH400 and QT set up from my 79 Cherkee wide trac with a 6.5 GMC V8 Deisel. I am looking for a GM 32 spline NV4500 4x4 gear box, or will buy whatever NV4500 I can find and then get the necassary adapters to end up with the same. Because of the QT my Diffs are offset to the right.
What transfer box will give me or can be adapted to give me with what ever kits, parttime/fulltime 4x4 and be strong enough to handle the 6.5s torque? I will be using this vehicle as a daily driver and for highway work when going away on holiday but will also regularly go exploring off road, though this will be done with consideration for passengers and vehicle so more sedate calambering than punishing thrashing. I need the option of fulltime 4x4 as the back roads around get very slippery in winter. Some thoughts.. can the NP229 be flipped? Is the NP203 as much of a power drain and weight excess as I've heard it is? Is it much improved with the part time conversion from milemarker? I don,t really want full time 4x4 for economy reasons but what about a Toyota Landcruiser tranny, and do they do a parttime/fulltime kit for these? HEEEELP! Thanks. Bigtorque. |
