I made the rings out of 1/16 inch aluminum plate. The bolts are 2x5mm steel set screws.

What A.R.C. has made are really more like rock rings :

http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/showthread.php?t=20945

The reason for them on a rc crawler is simply for looks - they "look" like beadlocks.

The Aluminum was free from a scrap bin at work and the set screws cost 3.50 for 64 of them. It took me around 3 hours to make all 4 from design to finished.

Sean is right Mav, they`re just for looks.

I've seen people make them out of very large washers. Just a matter of finding one the right diameter The added bonus would be the extra weight added to each wheel.

Thanks Lou. I like to think Axial scooped my design. I actually made those over a year before they came out with their rockcrawler. I should send them a bill.

A.R.C how did you cut the alu so well!! Do you have a lazer cutter lying around or much time with a drill and a small file?

I suppose this would add nicely to the unsprung weight too

I did it on a drill press with a small milling bit. After I cut the 4 discs to the proper dia I fastened them all together, drew out the pattern on the top disc and started cutting. This is the second set...I slipped cutting the first set.

It does add a small bit to the weight but suprisingly not that much. Ally that thin is very light and the set screws are so small they weigh nothing.
