just wanted to introduce myself and say how stoked I am to find a forum for these things Big Grin

I have had a couple of the tj's and recently picked up a FJC. mods are mostly choping and grinding, brass dog bones, rear steer, and I doubled the motor on the rear axle.

on smooth inclines, it will climb it,spin them, or flip it. Big Grin

if there is a bind or under cut, it will still stall it or slightly spin the rim in the tire a bit.

its by no means a "total solution" but it makes the guttles little buggers allot more fun Big Grin

Thanks!

wow, those gears look like they are the ticket!

this was the second double motor axle I have done. the first was UGLY! Eek on the first I shaved the hell out of the bottom of the diff. it made for awsome clearence, but with all the cutting on the top of the axle, it made for a slightly flexy axle that lead to the gears poping on nast binds and eventually stripping out. this time it turned out allot nicer. hard to tell with the pics cause the gob of epoxy. it looks like your 2nd pinion sets a little further back than mine. thats cool!. I used a chunk of the doner housing to mount the 2nd motor. I think that may have put it a little higher/ further back.

I will try and snap a couple more pics

I tried removing every other lug at first, and groving what was left. It still seemed WAY to firm. So with a dremmel, I removed everything off the sidewall and withth same barrel sander attachment, drug it down the side wall. it gave it a ton og "give" and still enough to support the little booger. on the tread I used a cut off attachment on the dremmel and gave it a few radial cuts through the lugs and into the casing, and a TON of lateral cuts in the lugs. I just wanted to get the lugs to actually comform. sence its mostly used indoor, I really didnt nead BIG lugs. I seems to me on smooth surfaces it gets beter traction with more surface area, with WAY more edges. the front tires are off my old TJ. I got those paper thin with more radial cuts. My thoughts on that where all about direction. it seems to be working OK.

the 2nd motor is a stocker cut out of an old axle. what did you use? it looks like your pinion is longer?

Fc187 .. THANK for this information..

On that pic, the motors are stock .. But I have installed 280 in other projects ..

These pinions from toys used and 2 of these pinions (8 teeth) made of copper were much longer ..
I already produce four pinions (8 teeth) with two pinions of this length .. But I do not remember which toys ..
I buy a few toys used to have spare parts .. Gears / pinions / motors..etc ..

The price of my war tank was $ 6.00 .. included 2 motors 280 / 2 gears 34x10 ( for YELLOW-CRAWLER ) and several other gears and parts ..

It was a real bargain ..

thats fricken sweet!

ya know, thats whats fun about these things! you can allways go out and dump a ton of cash into an awesome crawler with awesome axles with awesome motors,..ect ect,.. and easily have a $1,000 in car/radio/charger/equip!!!. Nothings wrong with that,... and I know its a matter of time before I end up there,.... but building these new brights are a blast!!!. all the choping and modifying, trying to milk every ounce of travel, traction and power out of what you got. It reminds allot of when I first got into 4WD's. I drove junk, but loved it! all the little things I did to that POS, showed improvement, and was for the most part, home grown and CHEAP!. those where the days. Big Grin

I have a couple 10th scale 2wd gas trucks. rc10gt and a JATO. they are fast and all, but I spend more time screwing around with my NB in my kitchen for a fraction of the price.

in short,.... I choped the hell out of them Big Grin

just made them as thin as possible and made the lugs as sliced up as possible. all with a dremmel. the benifits are incredible. I had a "coarse" in my kitchen I made out of foam and fiberglass. with stock tires (rock hard) I cant even get the rig INTO the "coarse" let alone over it. the way I look at it,...just like full size rigs, the tires need to conform, and the more of the tire thats on the trail, the better he traction. seems to work good. looks a little rough, but then again, so does my full size rig Big Grin
