Looks very good and the color fits it well.. Would look cool with a giraffe camo canopy /cover and trailer made the same. Has that outback / safari look to it IMO Big Grin.

Don't rush it,, were not going anywhere Smile .

so when you come up with a body, do you make a template, design on comp from views? You should do a write up on how you make them. An old willys and a few jeeps could be made good in your style of doing things.

To bad we do not have a Moderator who is actually around us. Some of this stuff should be a sticky.

Yes first i do scaling work on pc...for this model i took template i had done before and enlarged it to make it more to scale, did some slight alterations and did some prints in actual size to cut out panels and bits. My first model was just a test to see if i could do it. The lightweight was a big improvement and managed to make it look like the real thing but came a little bit overweight LOL. During the build I always keep browsing for pics of similar landies to what i'm doing to get ideas. I still end up doing most of the parts by trial and error...like for example the bonnet...its the most tricky bit to do but not hard...just requires some thinking.

Its all a matter of patience i think...my wife stares at me in awe while i'm holding bits together for long minutes till the glue dries LOL

Yes definitely a Willys Jeep is quite easy to do...much easier than a landy...once i had plans to do one but i'm a landy freak so prefered to shelve it... but i will some day.

I use to have a program called paper rap or something like that was looking fast can not find it. You must of seen the card stock airplanes, buildings etc?

I have a Mutt that Cobra98 gave me it is a Tamiya static model 1/35th scale. If I have free time ill try your method. I have card stock and would just need to find the craft sticks.

If you are aiming to use cardboard like me, using wood or craft sticks is just an option...you can easily do without...folds and creases make cardboard very rigid. Though i admit this last one i did using wooden sticks is the most rigid and also the lightest so far.

A nice option which someday i would love to try is to make one totally out of balsa wood...like rc planes...then you can do all types of curves by sanding. Right now that's my only drawback with cardboard...i cant do much curves.

You meant these paper models?...

I've done quite a few of these but never on a large scale to fit a chassis

just my thoughts but i cant see card board taking to much abuse . Confused

One day, someone showed me a glass of water that was half full. And he said, "Is it half full or half empty?" So I drank the water. No more problem. ~Alexander Jodorowsky.....

believe me...if built well its more than enough for our slow 1:10 NB crawlers...i flipped mine quite a few times and not even water did any damage.

Remember its not just cardboard anymore...Its all covered with resin based glue everywhere which makes it more rigid and gives a better base to paint on since otherwise the cardboard would absorb the paint leaving you with a rough finish.

A friend asked me to do him one for a Nitro but that would be insane. A fast flip would break it apart for sure. When i did do some damage, just a little bit of glue fixed it back and it never was in structure...just torn out decoration pieces which i had added later like bumpers and rear bumperettes...those are the first that take the hit. I'm not doing any on my latest one. BDW yesterday i did lots of progress again...paint all ready and started applying decals.

yes they come very very cheap...the last one cost me a bit more than the others because of the spray cans... actually just the paint costs a little bit...cardboard is cents worth and even the glue. And considering i didnt do much hours of work on it either.

that clip of the rc jet is a good one... do you know if it crashed then? I'dont think so cos it was still all in one piece at the end.

It stalled out after the collide and pancaked into the ground.

Here is one that shows the Mig going down.. Look at about 1.43 on the vid. Guy turns the camera back on when there already crossing back over the field.

here are some updates...

i'm still working on it but more or less its ready...

i did a test drive with it without reducing articulation and was going to chip the paint...found out its less hard than normal brush paint i usually use. I opted for those black soft fenders then. If they get thorn they are easy to replace.

she is looking nice. I find that on a porous surfes, if you are using a air brush you can thin
it allot and get the serves to suck the paint in for the first 2 coats. At work we call doing this
a sealer. Then after it drys you scuff the surfes to give final coats more bite and it will go on smoother.

If you are coating the body with a water base poly first like min-wax polycrlic. You can use that as a sealer and thin with windex class cleaner; same with johnson`s floor polish/future.
