here are some pics of mods i just did today. I removed top shock part and noticed that suspension works much better, flexing more easily and giving more articulation. But even on standard setup tyres where scubbing arches so instead of chopping bits and pieces from body (which i love as is) i decided to lift it all. I raised body by approx. 3cm from chassis. Job was pretty simply. Just glued 4 plastic rods, ready drilled for screw and cut to size (originally came from Cd/DVD bundle boxes) and drilled body exactly in place to insert screws. Now body is attached by 2 screws on bonnet and 2 on roof.
that was an awsome mod you added to your lr3. i like it because it gives it a look like that it was made for it. i love clean mods, very attractive. good job!
now i have to find out how to strengthen supports i glued. Yesterday one of them got unstuck but most probably its all my fault...was too anxious to try it out and i didnt give enought time for glue to dry.
Maybe some of you might know more about this...i was thinking of trying to custom fit a landrover 90 body (ones used on savage) on my LR3 crawler chassis. Obviously i know length is not correct but i only need the front mainly. For the back either i'll shorthen the body or i'll invent something. Any ideas? I would like it more cos body is much bigger and would cover wheels...like the real thing.
just take the back body support off 2 screws... then you wont have that thing hanging down.... other than that it looks good... ill post some more of mine as soon as the 4 link is done

yes i know about that rear support thing and had already unscrewed it but then i noticed that wires were passing through it so i had to either saw it out or cut out the wires. Didnt like any of the options for now since i might go back to standard body height someday.
In the meantime i went to have a look at the hpi landrover 90 body. Size more or less fits to LR3 wheelbase so with some custom DIY should be no problem to fit...at least i guess LOL
Wheel base of body is approx 1.5cm longer but i thing it wont show and its a bit wider than LR3 body which suits me cos i want it to cover a bit the wheels.
re rear body support i figured out a simple solution without cutting it out or anything. Just unscrewed it, flipped it on the inside just above battery compartment and got it glued with silicon sealer...simple but works. An i can still revert to standard in minutes.
i just started mods on my LR a few days ago. 4 link is roughed in on the front and back, changed the stearing around and stretched the wheel base. still trying to get a plan for the body so the tires dont rub
my body lift glueing new longer mounts to chassis did not work so well after all. Idea was ok technically but in practice glue was not holding so well. I need to invent something which is more flexible and shock resistant, something similar to what professional rigs use...so for now i went back to standard again.
I wanted a landrover body so i made it myself... its a landrover series 1 look-a-like, all made out of cardboard. Its made to measure to fit my NB LR3 Crawler i bought last month. Took me almost 4 days full time playing on it and still not finished. To be able to paint on cardboard i gave it a coat of pva glue first and now it feels as rigid as plastic. Grill and lights are hand drawn. Still have to invent something for interior. Now i have enough space for wheel articulation LOL.
one thing, have you thought about flapding shocks or seands brakeline telescopings? that way you can have the body almost all the way down on the chassis and have the wheels nicely tucked in the body for a more scale look, just an idea!
i'll be playing some more with this body adding bits and pieces and then i'll tackle something on a new battery. For now i just bought a spare one which fits in battery compartment but has to be plugged in. Its a cheap one and i have not tried it yet. Have to do some wiring to charge it with standard 4hr charger first.
