I see you have that string on the front and rear bumpers to the axles. what does this limiting strap do? what does it do without that tied on there? I see you have a mighty fine looking fourlink with good triangulation and was wondering why this string is required?

Thanks Lou. They`re a huge inprovement. Even in deep snow I`m pretty impressed where they will let me go compared to the stock tires. I`m looking forward to some warm rocks and sunshine.

J33P3R, the strings are working as a limiting strap right now until my new Shocks go on. The Shocks on it right now have the right amount of travel and I`m pretty happy with the spring rate but they have zero rebound damping, so when the suspension drops or gets torqued on the shocks stretch right out to their end and the front and rear wheels come very close together which makes the rig handle horribly. A new shock wont drop instantly becuase it will have some rebound damping to control that.

Finally got this thing finished. It took forever with waiting for the shocks and then moving to a new town. Its done for now(still got a few other plans for it), did some more cutting to the tires and some internal mods and they work a ton better now and having real shocks is a HUUUUUGE improvement. It does everything that much better. Took a while to get the shocks setup to my liking but now that its there this thing goes wherever it wants. It specs at 13.8 inch wheelbase, 2 inches of diff clearance, 2.75 inches of frame clearance and weighs 6.5 pounds. I`m very happy with its performance. Anyway....pics Cool

One day, someone showed me a glass of water that was half full. And he said, "Is it half full or half empty?" So I drank the water. No more problem. ~Alexander Jodorowsky.....

What tire are those? Did you cut the bottom bulge on the axles way down? Killer build. We need some video!

Thanks guys. No ink Sheep, but I`ve got friends in N.S. Real links make things move so much smoother and more controllable. Your black rig would be a killer.

The tires are RC4WD Rock Crushers. I`ve cut em up pretty good. I liked them in original condition but had a few ideas to make them work better...so far so good. I`m done carving them up now. Yeah I carved a bunch of the Diff bottoms. Theres a ton of room between the Axle gear and bottom of the bulge on a stock axle. It was one of those lightbulb moments. I was cleaning and relubing the gears one day and "ding!" All the vid I can make is really grainy 15 second silent films with a Digi-Cam.

I did a thread on the Diff mod...

Flapding Hey, how do you think the nylon gears stock would hold up in my rig to that Graupner? I have the super low Loulou gearset in it. I like the gearing but sometimes would like better acceleration and wheel speed, the stock motors are a bit weak in some situations. Just dont want to shred my gearset.

Yeah the systems is working great. I stripped a rear pinion gear a couple weeks ago but other than that its been working well. I replaced both 10 tooth pinions with 8 tooth and I like it a lot better now. It still has very low gearing but I get a bit more wheel speed now that has helped me out of a few situations. That got me to thinking about putting in a couple 280`s, I`m just concerned that the extra torque and speed they give will shred my gears.

A.R.C ..

YELLOW CRAWLER has already received the 280 .. but my crawler was a little too quickly (to my taste) for the slow crawling ..

I have seen the stock motor ..

It is true that (a little more speed in certain situations, would be very appreciated)

PS .. your crawler must be very efficient on the rock with this system ..

280 MOTOR ........

Quirky...how so? Too quick?

Yeah its pretty efficient. I can get 45-50 minutes of run time depending on the terrain I`m on. I`ve got a pretty lite finger and spend most of my time at 1/2 throttle.

Try using the stock 8 tooth pinion. I like it a lot more than the 10 tooth I had in there. I really wish I could get some video, the way this things crawls is really impressing the hell out of me. I`m very happy with it.

The speed was not that of an auto racing :-)

But the difference is felt ..

YELLOW-CRAWLER has 2 pinion 8 tooth ......
