i dont have a pic of the lr3 board jeff will have just wondering how brackets could be made to mount fans .?????

All I did was buy a connector from Radio Shack and attach it to the exising wires on the fan - badda boom badda bing. No switch - just remove the battery leads when you want to turn it off.
The 9 volt handled the fan no problem - they are 12 volt fans but the speed was still good - even when the batter was low. You really don't need a lot of air flow to keep the ESC cooled down.
i see this is good advice so a 12 volt fan is ok just run of one of those square 9volt batts

Yep. In other situtations, I've run similar fans for hours on end, day after day, on a 4.5 volt power supply (cheap adapter). I used the fans in my aquarium canopy to keep down the heat built up by the the lights. They just don't spin as fast as they do on the full 12 volts but 9 is perfect!
NOW THEN NOW THEN guys and gals .lol. i have been looking into alternative electronics for the lr3 as the stock boards tend to overheat and hobby grade can be expensive not to mention the high voltage the lr3 uses this may be a solution .take a look

this is a speed controller from a electric scooter they come in all shapes and makes and the prices are not to bad check out this link they do take high voltages unlike hobby grade esc ..... http://www.monsterscooterparts.com/otco.html

these are heavy duty units some will take up to 48 volts .this could be a solution with some mods .

i think the 24volt esc retails at $33 dollars .you could use the stock batteries with these if connections were soldered too them .

sound sgood NAT , is he electronics wiz? I need to send someone that schematic to check if it looks ok. I am trying to take the output of a receiver rc to an anologue input for a 24 volt motor controller (wheelchair) for a project yes I have the parts, no you cant have them
