in the truck or the controller? i checked the stearing box and it had one of those clay colored things attaching + to - it said 140 on it i think. it looked norma. then i checked the mother board and it looked normal? i was looking for burn marks or disconections. found nothing.
put your multimeter on the outgoing plug on the controll board. is there voltage? if no, its toast, if do, read the output, probably like 2 or 3 volts. Then get a d cell battery or whatever you have and see if the servo works, do no put your 9.6 volt battery onyour servo!!!! or your 14 volt for that matter!!

I know I put 9.6 volts directly through my steering motor without incident. These things are not servos (which you usually restrict from 4.8 to 6 volts) but rather small electric motors with a simple gearing system and physical stops that limit the movement. There is no circuitry or electrical workings other than the motor connections.
Actually, I swapped out my steering "motor" for a stronger one and it gave a slight increase in power over stock.
Still, not being an electrical-type person, I stand to be corrected,
