Got curious tonight, and took apart one of those mechanical wall timers used to turn lights on and off while you are away - cause i figured that -
IT'S FULL OF GEARS - Smile

got one nice one that's 9 teeth on pinion and 36 on larger -

the thing is just jammed with gears - now I will have to open NB tranny, and see if the size is right for any of them -

just an idea Big Grin

phatchantz:

Any luck? Please let us know if there is anything in there of use. I am still convinced that, out there somewhere, there is simple solution to this gear issue. Of all the gears produced in this world, there must be a drop-inable one somewhere.

Cheers,

Sean

sorry - some family issues have kept me away from experimenting with this gear(s) -

when I get some time I will look at this one, and also other timers, as they are are full of gears
( really FULL of gears ) just a matter of finding the right size -

anything that uses gears for reduction is possibly of use ( cause there are usually quite a few gears ) - ie: old battery power screw drivers, old clock radios - that kind off stuff - will keep looking and let you know when I get back to it Smile

I am of the same opinion ( as much as I hope for custom gears ) - that there must be a drop in replacement in something out there...

have not had a chance to troll the local electronics shops in the area..

other possibilities for old tank toys etc - Thrift Stores ( Salvation Army) / Pawn Shops /

my local hobby shops suck for this kind of small item Frown

we're about to get 20 - 30 cm of snow so I may be outside for awhile ( HA ).........

I, too am looking for a "no chop" gear upgrade - preferably something that can be found in my own backyard, or in phatchantz's case, the electrical aisle of the local hardware store or thrift shop.

So would something like a 9 x 36 or slightly larger just "drop" right in, I wonder. Taking into consideration perhaps needing to e "adjust" the existing axle hole size, of course.

I figure I can sit around and wait for someone to do the work for me or I can try and figure this out on my own - like others have do so before.

Hmmm. Canadian Tire has a mechanical timer on for 7.99!!!!!!

it's kinda like "panning for gold" - ya just never know what's gonna show up - you may blow 8 bucks on a timer, and find what you need, or maybe not, but at least you asked the question and looked Smile

ya win some, ya lose some..

winning is good Big Grin

Ahaaa!! - the gauntlet has been thrown down!!

I'm going to pick up one of these timers this afternoon (I've thrown away more than $8.00 on less frivolous things before so its not a big deal). Its Friday, got a dozen beer home waiting for me so it looks like I got me a Friday-night-drinking-beer-project. The beer should loosen up any brain blockages that have formed during the work week. Hopefully, I will have a gear epiphany and all will be revealed!

Come on 5:00!

Sean

Scratch the 7.99 Noma Timer from Canadian Tire. It has little tiny gears inside.

No great loss as I was going to buy one of these timers to use when charging my batteries overnight. Hopefully it came through the eploratory surgery and still works!!!!

Well, looks like I'll just be drinking beers tonight!!

Sean

I'm off to "Home Hardware" for the look alike ones that I mentioned above........AFTER IT STOPS SNOWING.....

they should have the same insides to them

ps: ToysRUs cancelled my order for the NB Jeep without even informing me - when I went to check my order status - there WAS NO ORDER - so I called them up, they said "oh well, I guess the system did it" - what the h*ll has happened to customer service - I told them to take me COMPLETELY out of their system -

the rep on the phone seemed to be upset about this - LIKE I WOULD ORDER FROM THEM AGAIN - just to see my order EVAPORATE
- HA - phatchantz
