I found a couple of these in my fathers train debris - the "gear reduction" is built right on the motor - and has it ever got TORQUE....

I hooked it up to a 9.6v, and could not stop it turning without burning my fingers.......

not a speed demon - but would climb a wall. I suspect that it's from a generalized hobby store, rather than a specialized ( r/c ) hobby shop..

I am going to have a look at the LHS once the snow lets up to see if they have various sizes of these...

just something else to think about ( really sad about the Jameco business Frown )

ps: that white wheel at the end was glued on for whatever reason

sweet deal man. but the only problem is
A: your going to have to do alot of cutting to get it to fit in the axel
B: you have to fit the pinion on there some how.
but those to problems seem to be easy to fix though.

I haven't had the time to tinker with this yet, but I'm wondering if the "gear reduction" assembly will come off and allow to be placed on another motor ?? - something that I will look at over the weekend - might save on "some"of the cutting if it would slip on to a smaller sized motor..

I suspect it was originally a "model train" component.

I called the local r/c hobby shop, and they have a selection of "mabuchi" motors which they refer to as "project" motors, but I will have to go in, as they have no reference numbers associated with them ??

I found this pic with this desc:

This is the motor used in our drive trains. It is a Mabuchi RC-280SA-20120 motor giving 29g.cm torque at 6400 rpm taking 0.57A from a 6V supply at maximum efficiency. The stall torque from a 6V supply is 175g.cm at a current of 2.85A.

it's the motor ( mabuchi ) that was mentioned in the "rides again" thread - don't know what scale was being referred to - I thought 1/10 but maybe I'm wrong ?!?!?

that coin beside it is a 2 pence (?) the pic was taken from a UK page ( they are bigger than you think )
