Just put a RadioShack High-Speed 9-18VDC Motor in my rearend. Had to do a little trimming to get it all to fit. But it works great with tons of power. I know there is a lot of talk on this board about using the speed 280 motor with stock electronics. Is this high speed motor I got from RadioShack going to fry my set up?
actualy thats not a bad idea. as long as the electronics hold out. cause then you will have some extra umph in the rear to help push the craler over stuff. as for frying your electronics i have no clue either.it would be best for you to ask gv280z about that cause that is his field of expertice.

Hey Rollerink, if that motor was going to fry your board I think it would have done so before you had a chance to observe how well it performed.
I don't know what motor you're talking about but these little motors are as different as cats and monkeys and none of their torque and amp specs are standardized in any way to their sizes. Frankly I'm amazed it sounds like it hasn't fried your board yet.
I am thinking about putting new motors in both the front and rear. I just wanted to try the rearend first to see if it was going to work. And so far so good. Would I be better off buying 2 of the 280 speed motors that everyone talks about and ditching the RadioShack motor?
First off, Rollerink you're already a winner in my book cause you're doing your own research. I think that's just Dandy
Secondly, since you've read that thread you know the Speed 280s have their place a little further down the bar to the "Fun to bash with" side than "controllability and torque at low rpm [like the UC280S 19160]" side. They are a great motor, tried and true and to top it all off, you can have the best of both worlds now with a new set of stage 1 and 2 upgraded gearing from Flapding.
Stage 1 used with that motor is a perfect combo of quickness and torque, stage two will give you wheel standing tear the tire off the rim torque and this can all be yours for the low low introductory price of $35!
BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!!! If you order now you can get a set of 4 Flapding's custom telescopic shocks with snazzy droop effect for only $25 more PLUS 5 free tubes of DD-7 worth over $1000! Plus shipping and handling.
For Crawling and bashing, that would be the UC280S 19160 I think. Because it's got torque way down low, it's a controllable motor even on the inferior NB electronics and it's got a little tid bit of quickness to it.
These things handle like crap anyway, it kinda sucks if it can go too fast. I love the 19160, it's a very well rounded motor, top notch replacement. But it all depends on what you want to do. You wanna get intricate and actually crawl? Then get the 19160.
Hey Thanks alot Question>>> This motor is it good for heavy crawling, should it be by it self, or added with the stock? Is this motor slower or faster?
The UC280 motors 19160 are adequate for stock gearing but only slightly. You still need lower gearing for more power and crawl ability. It seems to be a touch quicker than the stock motor but more stout all around. Yes, it should be used by itself (I guess by stock you meant the NB motors?)
gears before motors! i have the uc's in some stock gear axles, there is a difference... but that puny gearing makes it impossible to crawl with, i have an unmachined set of oldstyle flapgears and ordered a set of the new ones, thats 70 bucks for 2 completely different beasts
Mr. GV280Z, If I wanted to turn my rock crawler into a total mud masher and not really care about the whole crawling aspect and focused specifically on the mashing and bashing what type of motors would I be looking to put into my NB?
Speed 280 is the motor for that. And then a little later on, when you decide to get a set of gears from Flapding those 280s will really make that truck rock and roll with the stage 1 70.1 ratio.
No Sport or Race. Only the Speed 280. The other two will fry your electronics.
Your two options are thus: Speed 280 (quick bashin motor, trimming required) or UC280S 19160 (slightly quick crawlin motor, good torque, no trimming required.)
