I currently run a 95 YJ 4cyl. I might be able to get my grubby paws on an 87 TBI350 with a TH400 and trans case low miles and cheap. This puts the tcase output on the pass side. I already have a full width HP d44 drivers drop and a 14 bolt ready to install. Is there a better tcase that I should look for or am I better off selling the 44 front and building another one with the correct drop? Is there a better stick / tcase option either? I am looking for a set up that will work the best hopefully using the 44 that I already have. Thanks for the opinions ahead of time.

The TH400 is a good trans, however I like the 700R4 because it has an overdrive. If you want to keep your current front axle then start looking into a Atlas II t-case.

Given any though to a D300 and a flip kit? Inexpensive yet strong. Advance has the kit. I almost went that way and may yet when the 231 lets go.

Look for a Ford NP205. Then check with Novak and Advanced Adapters for adapter kits. You could also consider the 3.8 atlas.

Before you start saying the atlas is too $$$, consider the final price of all your mods and then price in the Atlas. You'll be suprised that the cost is within reason.

you can also get a 700r4 and np231C out of a early 90's 4.3L 4x4 s-10 blazer. There are always a bunch of em at junk yards and are failry cheap. Perks:

No adapters
drivers side drop t-case
overdrive
cheap parts

just to name a few. Just my $0.02.

I am running a similar setup in a 97TJ. i am running the Jeep np231 t/c. I installed a Advance Adapter input shaft and SYE kit which has a lot stronger main shaft than stock. I have the AA adapter between the TH/350 trans and t/c. I have been running this setup now for almost a year with no t/c problems. I am now in the process of stretching the rear wheelbase about 12". I am going to be on the lookout for a dodge np241. This is a driver side drop 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton truck transfercase. Same bolt pattern as a np231, except stronger.

i have a chevy 241 i think, that mates to a th400. it has the drivers side front driveshaft and is not electrical. it has a manual lever to shift it. i know it mates to a th400 cause it is on it right now. you can use it and get a sye for it, and yould be in there with your swap. i want 175 for the transfercase of you are interested. let me know.
