Sorry in advance for the long post, but: Has anybody broke their centering pins for their leaf springs? I was at Attica over Thanksgiving weekend, and I couldn't figure out why I kept rubbing my front fenders more than normal. Anyway, after I got it home (thankfully I had a trailer), I noticed my axle was sitting funny. After further inspection, I noticed I could see the spring centering hole on my passengerside leaf springs, and also noticed it was moved on the driver's side. Anyway, is there anything to prevent this from happening again? It looked like the pin was, rusted\sheered off. Only a 1.5yr old RE 4.5" ED kit. I am in process of tearing it all apart a little per night and don't want to have to do it again. I am most likely going to have to get new u-bolts due to the condition of these. Thanks.

We did on the 90 YJ. Axle kept moving while on a trail and had to stop a couple times and loosen the U bolts on that side kick the tire back and then re tighten with all that we had. RE actually sells them, but I didn't know that back then. I ended up getting some Grade 8's and ground the heads round and they worked just fine. I'd get the RE's though.
yeah dude about 2 weeks ago i was wheelin in uwharrie national forest and i heard some metal clashin sound and got out and saw half my leafs were missin and axle shifted back to gas tank went back and got lost leafs and loaded back on trailer just from broken pin
Yep, sheared the left front pin at KRocks last year. And have a bent quarter panel to show for it. I bought replacements at a local auto supply. But as said, the RE pins, or the grade 8 bolt idea would work. Keep in mind these pins/bolts are in a shear load. So STAY AWAY from low quality hardware. About the only suggestion I can give for preventing this is to check the torque on the u-bolts regularly. I started out doing it, stopped, and paid the price! I now put a torque wrench on them before any wheelin trip, or when I change the oil, whichever comes first. I go for 65ft.lbs. on my front u-bolts. I have a Ford 9 in the rear, and they're a bit beefier, so I torque them to 100ft.lbs.
