Had my Jeep on the lift tonight, and notice that the trackbar mount on the rear axle was about torn off... so I finished the job. Did a shakedown on the highway, and didn't notice any squirrely behavior. Anybody else torn theirs off and decided to leave it that way?

That track bar is what centers your rig over the axles. Because you have leaf springs, you may not notice a big change when driving down the road without it. You don't need it. It's common for the stock mounts to tear off, especially the front.

Yeah, I realize that the purpose of the trackbar is to minimize lateral movement of the axle, and with a setup like a TJ with a live axle located by four pretty much parallel control arms (as opposed to a three-link hybrid with a center mounted arm on the diff that spreads to the frame) it is required. But with a fixed point of attachement fore and aft of the axle, I really don't see needing it, especially if I'm not trying to corner like a Porche. (I gave up cornering performance when I went to a lift, 33's and a Detroit). Just looking for somebody who's had theirs off to chime in as well.

I took mine off when I put my 8.8 axle in the rear. I actually noticed just a little bit of diffrence in the handleing, but not enough to matter. But this is probably about 2-3 years ago and I cant remember mutch about it. But I did notice that I now have a little axle wrap when I didnt before. Mabey its from the lower gears putting more stress on the almost flat REALLY worn out stock springs, I dont know, but I need somthing to keep the axle from twisting. Mabey new springs will help.

Everyone of my friends who has a yj does not run front or rear trac bars on the street. They have no problems, but more pressure is put on the spring to keep the axle centered. It seems like Some leaves can shift in the spring pack over time, without the trac bars.
