I have a 95 jeep wrangler 2.5 liter wrangler. I just blew the head gasket and dont want to put anymore money into this engine. I was thinkg about buying a 4.0 stroker crate engine. I have the five speed tranny i think it is the aisin AX-5. I was wondering what you guys recommend and what issues I may run into.

You can go with a six or you can go with a Chevy 350 .

Since you have an early model car you will have to transplant
the wiring and computer anyway - so why not go with a cheap
V8 - it does mean you will have to replace the transmision
and be very light on old axles but there are lots of options
there.

The six is the only way if you are sticking with jeep engines.
The questions is what year/model and do you have a good donar
that does not need to be rebuilt or do you have to rebuild.

If you rebuild - consider a stroker - that is put the 4.2 crank
in the engine with 4.0 HO header and intake - also fuel injection.

Avoid the years that have the french control computer 89-94.

If money and time are your limit - try looking for a late model HO six - and
do a strait transplant - I scored a six with 40K for four hundred last week - so
that is about as cheap as you can get. The guy had an auto on it for another 300.

I've been at this for a while so I don't think much of spending a week doing this
so consider a strait swap because it is the fastest. If you are jumping to an
engine that is ten years newer you need to score then entire engine box from wires
to computer - best to have a donar car - so you don't have to take it out at the
yard.

Once you have the transplant done you can save money by not buying that new ruby
and spending 400/month on payments taxes, and insurance. I have good drivable jeeps
that are all payed off and have no taxes and low insurance - I save about ten K a
year over a new ruby. Which I use to run the ***** wagon in the corner...

I did this swap a few years ago. Off the top of my head, you will need the following: 4.0 engine (Cherokee's work), AX-15 tranny, new drive shaft (rear will be shorter), new motor mounts, exhaust, under hood wiring and computer.

Just be sure the AX-15 fits the six - I found that there are about three different generations of AX-15 with different shafts and noses.
