The yj's didn't come with dana 44's so they would be diffrent. Also wouldn't the wagoner axles be a little longer than a wranglers?

Yes it will work. The perches have to be move something like 9/16ths of an inch in board. A bit of grinding on the pumpkin if you are still sua...
I used an 86 waggy front end in my yj.

I think 86 is the change over year. Some could have the amc model 20 rear while others might have the dana 44. The front axle will be a dana 44 and will be drivers drop, same as your YJ.Just look under the rear, if the diff cover is round it is a m-20.

Jeep is pretty funny sometimes. They used d44 rear axles in the wags untill 79, then in 80 they switched to the amc m20, then switched back to the d44 in or around 86. For you YJ you will want a 80 or newer wag, the 79 and down wags had passenger drop front axles and also the rear was offset to the passenger side too (because of the q-trac) The m-20's used in the wags are stronger than the CJ versions, the have one peice axles and I think the housing is stronger too. so even if it is a m-20 it might still be better than the m-35 the wranglers came with. Hope this helps some.
