1995 Dodge Dakota 3.9L, 4wd.

The stock 231 Transfer case in my back-up vehicle exploded, sent the chain thru the case.

I have a 1989 Dodge Dakota that I bought for parts for mine since I knew I was having transfer case problems. It worked great in the truck it came out of, and the truck still drove even after being rolled over. There was a slight difference in the external attachments. There was no provision for the 4wd Indicator light and the electronic speedometer drive had to be transfered, and there was a 4 port vacuum solenoid that goes to front end, which isn't used on the 1995 truck and is not currently connected. Now that everything is installed and filled and seemingly adjusted, the transfer case makes a large growl and won't engage. I thought that the 231 transfer case was all manual and does not require any vacuum to make it work.

Please help fast.
