What is a cheap and easy way to get a wider axle. I think I need 8". I am concerned about spacers or stepped out rims on the front axles as they tend to destroy your steering and handling. I'm thinking about a D44 from a wagoneer on the front and 3" spacers on the back. There seems to be a bit of fabrication involved in installing the D44's on a Toyota.

Question: Has anyone done a front end swap? What are the best housing choices?

Use the SKY MFG full width axle swap kit. I think it is under 200 and you can run any full width axle with 31,5" spring pad centers. That is what I would do. They built good products.

If you swap in a ifs truck rear axle, its 3" wider and has the big brakes and a beefier housing and then you can use smaller spacers back there....hey, frog, when we going wheeling?

Thanks guys!
I found a Dana 44 front from a 72 Blazer that is already cleaned up and ready to mount and a toyota axle that is 3" wider for the back. I'm getting ready to start stripping the Toy... starting with the long bed.

A toy axle with Longfields is way stronger than a 44, unless you just needed the training wheels.

They are very similar. I can't say one is stronger than the other. And you can't get 8" wider with out a custom toy housing. Plus some axles are easier to come by in some areas.

I know this is a bit late but for everyones information there is now a kit that widens your toyota axle to about 61" and can be cutomized to be even wider...

Oh, and it also uses 30 spline longs so it MUCH stronger than a D44.
