Is the 2.5L 4cly still an option? Or is the V6 your only choice? I think the V6 is going to be quite a bit under powered to move all that weight, they are heavy! Perhaps if the 4cly or 6cly option is gone, they may change that to a 6cly or Hemi....?

For the 1st person to get one, I'll give you my shovel of a skid to protect that gastank! Big Grin I'm in no hurry to upgrade to a new one yet, I'd wait at least a year or two to give the factory a chance to work the bugs out and the aftermarket time to generate some decent lifts and such.

I need to go digging. Hopefully this 3.8 isn't based on the oiil burning/head gasket blowing older Caravan motors. I see more blue smoke from them things on the road than anything also.

Ren, I keep thinking they may have missed the gearing. The gearing they list looks about perfect for the 4.0L, but after looking at the torque numbers of the 3.8 it looks like they should probably go down to 4.56s in the rubi.

That's what I plan on doing, very likely used as I refuse to pay msrp for something that loses 25% of it's value just by rolling off the showroom floor. My '97, '99 and '00 TJ's were bought new. Since then I've gone through a divorce and subsequent bankruptcy. New is no longer important to me. Anyways, I won't be buying for at least a year as my new wife has a leased vehicle and I drive a Freightliner... no need for two vehicles at this time. By the time I'm ready to buy a used TK the aftermarket offerings should be better established.

I still think they FUBAR'd the location of the fuel tank. Looks like a reloctated fuel cell will be a mod to look at doing. Appears that the storage area in the rear might be a plausable location, though likely it wouldn't be large enough without a fuel cell sitting higher then the floor deck.

I read that it's based on the iron block, aluminum head 3.7 that comes in the Ram pickups. Two over head valves per cylinder for low end torque.

And I agree 4.56's all the way!

Seems exactly like the step from the YJ to the TJ. Some "new-fangled-crap," improved noise, ride, interior, different lines (which might take some getting used to). Some weaknesses addressed, some new ones born.

Aside from the obvious new lifts, etc, aftermarket guys who capitalize on adressing all of these new little weaknesses have a lot to gain.

If those massive front fenders just bolt on, you'd be pretty set to remove them offroad for a pretty narrow front-end. With the fenders off and the corners lopped off that bumper, things wouldn't be too bad.

I'm interested to hear about the changes to the Rubi D44s. Noticed that the lockers are now e-lockers, not air. The coverage says the RnP and shafts are bigger (basically making it a whole new axle). It's cool that you can get a non-rubi with the D44s and 4.10s if you want to do your own thing suspension and drivetrain-wise.

Also interested to see what becomes of the 4-door. At 4100lbs for the Rubi, these things need some more beef or at least lower gears.

Here's the deal on the fenders. They are removable - well - just like they are now. In other words, you can take 'em off but they are not take-off by instruction. By that, I mean you can take them off but they are not advertised as such. They are not bolted on. They use trim piece attachments. So if you wanted to take them off you can do that. You'll just have to buy a handful of trim pieces to put them back on. Should be no big deal.

the hinge is in the middle of the windshield (because it's now curved a bit). It's hard to see the hinge in the pics though.

I actually like the muffler placement. Stick a cherry bomb on there and you have room to move the rear axle back.

Bets on how long until somebody mounts a fuel cell in the extra space behind the rear seat?

Looks pretty close to under the driver's seat. What does it do, deliver 40k volts to the driver if they are doing something stupid ?
