I've spent the past week chasing problems with my wifes 97 TJ we bought used a couple months back. Last Friday I had to do a brake job because a front caliper got stuck. While fixing that I see that the ball joints are shot. While fixing those I see that the hub bearings are toast. Go to pull that off and the hub nut is only hand tight, like when installing the old (and cheap!) taper bearings, instead of 175 ft lbs! Done that way on purpose because the retainer and cotter pin are still installed!!! All these problems because some boob can't get a manual and do a job correctly! Mad I'd like to whack 'em in the skull with a torque wrench! OK, rant over. Big Grin I did have fun working with my wife, she wants to learn how to wrench on her rig, but while wrenchin' is OK, it's not wheelin'!

To boldly go where we're too stupid to know any better.

Some people just dont relize. Atleast you have the problems fixed and know it was done right. Thats good that your wife is putting in her wrenchin time as well.

My wife want's to learn as well. We're trying to decide if she gets my signature Jeep. Then she wants to install a fuel injected engine.
Meanwhile I get to build another Jeep from all the parts I have left over from other projects.

Wife here...
Squid with a Jeep is more patient than I have any right to deserve.
If you all heard "the rest of the story" you would roll on the floor with you sides aching. How can I not want to wrench on my own rig...if for no other reason than the amusement factor and the absoulte knowledge that there will in fact be something next!!!
I Love my Squid and want to let all of you know that he is becomming a real top notch Jeeper on the road and off. And I am learning lots from him.
(I already spoke the vocabulary he is speaking from my time in the Marines Red Face). So I know exactly what he is saying at all times!
Later for now! And thanks for being there for him to vent to!!!!! Wink
