Question:
Im tired of driving a truck Roll Eyes I do believe i have become a full-time jeep addict and i need a DD/weekend warrior Jeep.(even got a krawler tread and Jeep tattoo.)
I tought about a zj but i heard the quadra track binds really bad, but on the other hand a v-8 would be nice when my yj gets done.
An xj would be good on gas (better than a chevy 5.3) And has a wider range of aftermarket parts than a zj
Which on would you all get?
I plan on RE long arm on which ever one i get and 35's
My budget is about 6-7000 I want plenty of money to go all out on it

Choices:
zj
xj

93 yj RE 2.5 inch Extreme duty lift, RE shackles, RE disconects 33 inch bfg a/t's, 1 inch daystar bl
upcoming projects: Front 44/44 axle swap, Tennessee offroad cage, 37 krawlers?
SOA and 6 inch stretch

I have one of each. and for comfort the ZJ all the way! Mine has the quadra trac and so far so good. But if it ever goes bad I am swaping in either a 231 or a 242. The pedal possition of the XJ is a bit ackward to get used to and has caused several wrecks. I have yet to tow with the ZJ but I am sure with the 5.2 it will do ok My gas milage has averaged around 15 mpg so gas milage isn't too bad. better than either XJ I owned.

even though I haven't owned an actual XJ, ZJ all the way Smile
I was in the same position a couple of years ago and went with a ZJ (the 5.9 for that matter Wink) and the ride is much smoother than with a XJ (yes I have driven XJ's and based on that decided to go ZJ)

I would go with the ZJ because of the coils all around and if you ever do wheel it it will flex very well. My buddy had a ZJ and it was very comfortable and did awsome off and on the road.

I have never had a ZJ put have a few buddies who do and they love them. Like you said you can't beat the V-8.

Got any pic's of your krawler tread tat? I'd like to see that.

i would like to see that too!! i had a buddy that owned a 96' ZJ and had some issues with lift, tire wear and wheel bearings. he returned it back to stock and sold it. i'm thinking that he got some jank parts and didn't have it aligned properly or something. make sure you research your lifts for longevity. good luck. i like the ZJs too.

97 TJ 6" FT lift, 37 SSRs, PSC stuff, ARB and detroit, superior axles, CB, a turtle...
