Every time it rains when my jeep is parked (usally overnight) I come out to my jeep and there is usally a little water sitting in the floor mats. As soon as I start driveing off water just pours out from under the dash. I mean a good little bit, like someone is sitting under the dash slowly dumping a glass of water out. It comes out on the ends depending on with way the jeep is leaning (like going around a turn) on the passenger side it pours out from the left side of the speaker grille, on the drivers side it will pour out right behing the headlight switch and right down on top of your left foot and gets my pants and shoes soaking wet. This is starting to pi$$ me off. Now it only does this when it is sitting. usally overnight when it rains. Once the water drains out from where ever it wont do it any more. I could drive it around the rest of the day with it pouring down rain and no more will leak out. It only does this when it sits for a while when it is raining. My only guess is it must be the cowl seal (at the base of the windshield) but how can that mutch leak in and WHERE IS IT POOLING UP AT? Where at either under or inside the dash can that mutch water sit? I am afraid that I am gonna short something out (mainly the headlight switch) since the water pours out onto it. I found a new cowl sealim my 4wheel drive hardwaare mag for 30-somthing dollars. Only problem is getting waiting for it to get here after I order it then getting a dry spell so I can put it on. It didnt do this 3 or so years ago when I got it, it just slowly started and has been getting worse and worse over the past couple years.

had a 92' with same problem. it was caused by hood inlet getting clogged, which is hard to unclog. after a rain it would dump directly on my feet. you can take off cover clean out what you can then blow air down it it may or may not help though...

You meen the intake for the heat/defrost? That grille has fine wire mesh under it so that should keep most stuff out. But I will pull it off and check anyways.

My 93 does something similar, usually there will be water on the floor boards already because my Jeep is always parked at a steep angle. However, when I turn on the defroster or heater I can hear the fan slushing around water.

I dont have that problem, the blower is dry and none of this water comes from the duct work. I pulled the vent thingy and checked it today and it is clean in there, nothing cloging it up. I got more water dumped in the floor boards this morning, cause it rained last night.

That makes me ponder... I have a similar problem but I think its the clogged inlet. When I turn on the AC by the end of a 30 min drive there is a small puddle in my floor boards, I just leave the drain plugs out due to my lazyness to clean it.

What does this water smell like anyways? Do you think it could be the heater core by chance? Or is it just condensed water?

If its the heater core its kinda smells sweet and like throw-up at the same time. Mine is defetly not the heater core as it only does it when it rains (wich is not often in southern california)

My buddies leaked because of a bad seal at the bottom of the windshield. Always left a puddle on the passenger side floor.

This is not antifreeze, no leaks there. Its not comeing from the heat/defrost ducting. I checked the inlet and it is clean. Its not condensation, this is a all out leak. I would say if I was to collect the water that spills out it would be enough to fill up 1-1 1/2 20oz coke bottles. Its a good ammount of water. But it finally stoped raining today so it dried out juts a little.

This may be a dumb question to your problem or a likely solution, Do you have a soft top by chance?
When I make the transition from hardtop to softtop for spring/summer there is always a large collection of water from rain. Softtop's arent totally waterproof, although they hold up well there is always the possibility of leaks. Judging from what you said how it stopped raining made me think what style top you have.

Yea it has a soft top. but its not leaking from it. I dont see how the top can make water come from under the dash. Its not water that is sitting in my floor boards that I "think" is comeing from my dash. There is usally nothing in my floorboards untill I start moveing, then the water srarts running out from under my dash on the ends.

This is a fairly common issue. We have 2 2001 TJs and they both allow water to collect on the floorboard after rain. It only seems to happen when they're parked up hill. Just sitting in the driveway is enough. As far as I can find, it comes through behind the hood under the cowling. There are 2 vent inlets on either side of the windshield wiper motor.
Have you tried using a hose and running water until you find the leak?

My 02' has had the same problem. I would only see water inside though (passenger floor) after good wasing. It seems that if I spray from the drivers side into the cowl, water would find its way to the HVAC inlet. So now when washing I pay attention to that fact. I also put a 90 degree elbow on the HVAC drain spout coming through the firewall. I read somewhere before that the sout could cause that problem of letting water. I think those have helped but not completely eliminated the problem. I was thinking of fabbing a n extra splash gaurd for inside the cowl area, maybe that would eliminate the problem in my case.

Now that you mention that 90* elbow, I remeber reading a while back in the TJ section to face that elbow down so water couldent enter it.
