Hey,
I need some information on the axles that ive put under my cj5, theyre from a 78 cherokee, i know theyre the d44/d60 f/r combo. what i need to know is if theyre normal rotation, if they have a standard open carrier, ratio, spline count, and anything else that is signifigant. im about to buy some lower gears (5.13), and some lockers, so i need to know all this stuff. just trying to get the heads up on what i need. any help is wanted. I never knew FSJ's came with D60's stock.
Last I looked it was a AMC 20 or a D44 (both offset and centered versions) Anyway, yes, the front axle is a standard rotation as should be the rear reguardless of what it is, spline count should be 30 spline inners with 19 spline outters on the front. The carrier or the ratio doesn't matter since your: 1. Buying lockers 2. Buying lower gears (which you will need a new carrier for gears that low) You would think since they are already under your Jeep you'd know this stuff. Hard to guess when they could possibly be modified. Pull your covers, count the teeth and axle splines and you will know for sure. Look to see if the they are reverse rotation or not...and you will know for SURE. ~Jason ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Evergreen Offroad. Custom Differentials, chassis and suspension. If they are the stock axles out of a 78 wagoneer, cherokee, or J-10 then they are both D-44's front and rear, and yes they are both low pinion/standard roatation. Like salem said, it doesnt matter what raito and carrier you have now. since you are puttin in lockers they are gonna replace the carrier and just tell the company you get them from what raito gears your gonna use. Only thing would be if you are useing the lunch box locker (one that just replaces the spider gears) but you would still need a new carrier for the gears you want to run. The only fullsize Jeep that came with a D44 front and a D60 rear would be the J-20's How many bolts hold on the wheels on the axles you have?
