Hey guys. I’m pretty new to owning a Jeep and I’ve got a question. I've been looking for a good shade top and I found one made by SpiderWeb Shade Solutions. Anyone heard of this? Got any opinions? You can see the top at:

I see that when you registered, you omitted your state of residence. How practical a shade will be is dependent on your use of the jeep and your local weather conditions.

Generally, they're interesting. They do nothing to keep rain out! Big Grin

The first time I saw one was in 1988 at the All-4-Fun in Ouray, CO. A guy with a Landcrusher made his own. He did that out of trampoline material, cutting and then putting on an edge the same general dimensions of his rollcage over his head. When we stopped for lunch at the top of Corkscrew, he and his companion got out and climbed up on their mobile lounge chair. It worked really well for that dual purpose. I was so impressed that I started looking into the subject.

A year later we were at a local swimming pool shop and the guy had the coolest thing I've ever seen, ready made. It was an advertising display for a winter pool cover. It was just about the right shape to do the same thing. It even had grommet holes to lace it to the cage! Big Grin Its designed for safety, so kids or critters wouldn't fall into the pool over the winter.

Shade is fine, having a portable seat is better if it also cuts the suns rays a bit.

Back about 1980 my son was 9 years old. We were exploring in the national forest in southern KY. We were on some really tight old roads and the brush kept coming in and smacking him (and me.) It got so bad that we fabricated a makeshift screen out of some rope, between the cage in front and the rollbar behind him.

When we got home, I just took an old CJ7 door frame, stripped off the old material and opaque window and we installed some fiberglass door screen. It was a big joke at first, a screen door on an open jeep! It served the purpose. It also kept him from getting quite as muddy in holes. Only liquid mud made it thru!

For a store bought, ready made answer, the one you're looking at will do. How practical it is depends on how long your summers are. If the screening is tight, you can prevent some bugs from getting inside if that's one of your goals. Summer in the desert is better served by AC!
