4" lift (w/springs) for a 72 cj5 $444 superlift 42" tires $318 per Super Swamper TSL 15-10" Rims $54 Per black steely
The best price i can get was off of www.tyres1.com (prices up there). the whole deal was 1932.64 before shipping. The local store was WAY higher than that.
Can yall beat that or am i just gonna have to blow the budgetout of the gate?
Will 42" TSL's fit under a CJ5 with just a 4" suspension? I had a 74 CJ5 about 25 years ago runnning a 4" lift with 36" Ground Hawgs and would rub the fenders. What other mods have you done? What gears are you running?

I always hate being the voice of reason, but are you sure 4.10s are going to turn 42" swampers? Those things are going to weigh nearly 180 lbs at each corner. That's alot of weight to turn. I don't think 4.10s are gonna cut it. I'd really check into the gearing before you spend $2K on tires and wheels that are going to end up killing your rig's drivetrain. I'd at least go 4.88 MINIMUM to turn 42s. The buyers remorse will haunt you when you snap your first yoke or blow your first u-joint on the trail if you don't. Just an opinion.

ive reviewed my options, and i think im gonna take it in steps. do the axle swap, SOA, and the body work and see how big of tires i can go with that, ( im thinking 36.5) get them on the 10" wide rims. its got the 304, ill leave it in there and start saving. this summer when i get enough maoney for the lift, tires and gears ill swap the engine ,put the springs on, and go with the big meat.
42s don't weigh 180 pounds each. The tire itself is 104#, and the wheel might weigh 35, maybe. That's still a lot, and way too much for a Dana 44 ujoint to handle, don't waste your time. If you're gonna run 42s, 35 spline 60s are the bare minimum.

T-Town, Don't take the responses as harsh, just tid-bits of experience. Big meats and resistance (ie, mud, sand, rocks, speed bumps) are destructive to ANY drive train. Obviously driver plays a big part but there is a threshold where an axle will simply say "oh snap". Yes, I've seen guys run tooth picks and big meats too and not break at that point in time. However, I've also seen them drive out of an obstacle just go another 5 feet fall apart. If your on a budget, then look long and hard for parts. You can find good buys but you simply have to be patient. If you’re dead set on a D44, at least upgrade it to CTM's and 35 spline shafts.

well the reason im looking at the dana 44 is the fact that ive got one laying around (actually on a cherokee that i got for next to nothing). i do plan on running the big meats eventually, but ive almost decided to take it in steps, so i can do it right. right now im looking at around 36.5 in tires
