Hey all,

The Navy is moving me from Washington to Millington, TN which is just north of Memphis. I was wondering what the shops and trails in the area are like? I know about Tellico and Windrock and such out near Knoxville, but that's almost 400 miles away, looking for something closer in the 100-200 mile range so we can go for a day and come home that evening. I have family living near St. Louis and Chattanooga also, so we could crash at their house and go for a weekend wheelin' trip also.

Thanks in advance,
Mark

There's quite a few places to wheel within 500 miles.

Paducah,Ky
Hot Springs, Ar
Poteau,Ok
Rockport,Il
Disney,Ok

Knowing the terrain around there I'd think there would be alot of places to play.

If you want to venture out to Iowa I'd be happy to show you around. We plan a trip every spring to Disney, Ok.

You've also got Land-Between-the-Lakes Recreation area. The best course of action is to just join a local 4wd club. The locals have all kinds of great places staked out and use them regularly.

Be aware that some places require specialized modifications to do well. Best to see if you can bum a ride the first time or two. That way you'll have an idea what you're getting into.

welcome to the area.

No clubs in this area. Join "tennesseeoffroad.com" forum section. Lots of west tn folks. I have yet to go on trips with them due to high gas but they go to Land between the lakes in aurora ky, wheeling in the country in summertown tn, offroad143 in dickson tn, superlift park in hot springs ark, upper/lower tellico in tn/nc. all but tellico is within 3 hours of memphis.

I live in Nashville area now, but went to school in Memphis, so I'm familar with Millington. I wheel at Turkey Bay in Land Between the Lakes mostly. We have fair sized local group. Check out itsajeep.org. It has most of the parks listed. Also there's a Superlift, OHV Park in Hot Springs, Ar. and Wooley's Offroad in Lewisberg isn't too far.

Thanks for all the replies! Sounds like my wife and I will be able to keep up with our passion. I'll look into the clubs and web pages when I settle and have a home.

Thanks again,
Mark
