Go to www.onboardair.com, it's got exactly what you need. I'm currently in the process of converting A/C my Jeep came with to something usefull, an air compressor. I chose to use other places for my parts, but their site has a lot of info and diagrams. Do a web search for on board air, read the many articles you find, and they will help you choose to fit your budget and your needs. Good luck!

T-Town, I am glad to see you here. I just moved from Tuscaloosa 6 months ago. I ran with Heart of Dixie for a good long while, holding vice-pres and pres while in the club. I sold my YJ had a child and moved to Brookhaven MS (for my wife she is from here). It is good to see other Jeepers from "my town" on the board.

If you are not with HOD look them up they are a great bunch of folks. Tell my about your Jeep I may Know you already.

Great to see you here shoot me an e-mail sometime southernjeepnut@cableone.net

I used My AC compressor for my OBA it works great! I totally built my setup from Ace Hardware cept for the air line and tank, didn't really need a tank but air tools are nice at times. My manifold is a bit geheto but works. I also have air leaks but it really doesn't affect the opperation much. Go for it one of the best mods I ever did I use it every time I go wheeling.

You do need to oil it I just squirt a little pb blaster in mine before i head out. Depending on how much you use it you could get an oiler for air tools and put it in on the suction side. you should also put a pop off valve inthe output side like described on the Kilby site.

so essentially what you are saying is i just need to hand oil it before and after using it? Hmm seems easy. what problems do you run into on the setup? what type of pressure/volume do you get out of it?

you will need a pressure regulator that controls the clutch on the pump. with my idle turned up it will keep the pressure in the range that the pressure switch is set at. for just airing up tires you don't need a tank but in is nice. far as oil goes just a little before you use it. if you don't have a ac pump now and you go looking for one. watch out for what year get yours off of because not all years have the same bolt pattern.

I am doing a write up on my set up for my clubs web page but it still isn'y done yet. But I haveabsolutely no problems with my set up. My air tank is really big for an OBA but for $15 couldn't be beat. I am useing a 7 gallon air bubble I bought from Wally world. it takes my 2.5 minutes at an Idle to fill the take enough to turn off the pressure switch. And this commporessor had a very hard time with air conditioning duties. I also used it with out a tank for a while and had no problem airing up tires that had rolled the bead. It would air a 36" TSL to trail pressure in no time at all with out th tank.If I was to buils another setup I would spend the money and buy Kilbys manifold not only does it look much nicer I think I would have lees air leaks nad an easier maniflod to mount. I need to get that write up done and some pictures taken.
