some of you older drivers might have done this at one time.Been toying with the thoughts of doing it to the front dana 27 on my M38.The cost of a locker for it is outragious.Since I can lock and unlock the front hubs,I wonder if it would work allright.I'd love to have some input from folks that have done this.My m38 is a stocker with 30inch MTrs so drivetrain stress from large tires or powerfull engine isn't really a factor. Thanks in advance

did it in the front of my f250, and it's done in my bro's blazer/buggy, works great offroad!! i used to just lock the pass side and if it got deep or lose hop out and lock the drivers side. driveing on the street is horrible do not do it if you need to drive it in 4x4 on the street.
THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS!! |

do you know if anyone makes a mini-spool for the D27. I doubt, probably rare, but if they do it might be a cost effective alternative so if you ever need spyders again you can put them back in.

I've had my rearend lincoln locked for the past four years, and it still has not given (knock on wood). It all depends on who is doing the welding if you want it to last I believe.

I welded the front of my 68. I broke the welds 3 times. I even had it out and had someone who had a lot more years welding try. Can't say how good it works. But when it did I loved it. Unlocking was a pain.
They do make a locrite locker for the D27. The reason I welded mine was because the side gears were toothless. You can weld it but you will need to drive it easy in 4. 27's are not known for there carrier and axle strength
