Just saw a new wheeling show I had recorded off the Outdoor Channel called "4x4 TV". This episode was filmed in Anza Borrego State Park, which is my favorite area of the SoCal desert, so I was excited by the opportunity to see some of my old, original Jeep stomping grounds. Little did I know
Our intrepid host has himself a pre-production FJ Cruiser and is going to show us a trail called "Coyote Canyon". When he gets to the top of a rocky but mild hill, he leans out the window, looks into the camera, and smugly says "Take that, Jeep Rubicon!" If you're still watching, don't miss his tip of the week! What's his biggest advice you may wonder? "Go around the rocks!" It's on again Saturday at 12:30 AM and Monday 2:00 PM central time. Catch it for a laugh! P.S. I did the Coyote Canyon trail on one of my many visits to Anza Borrego while stationed in San Diego, and found it easy and boring in my stock Wrangler X with 31" BFG ATs. Never felt the need to go through it again. Nice scenery, but not at all challenging. There's many trails out there that offer a better time wheeling. See ya, Mark To boldly go where we're too stupid to know any better. "Use your hammer, not your mouth, jackass!" Mike Ditka Mostly 03 TJ, RE 4.5 Superflex, 35 x 12.5 BFGs, OBA, MM Hyd winch, Elockers, Custom built Dana 44's, Rockhard cage, and wonder gadgets. http://midsouthjeeps.com |

Not really a new show. But that Meyers guy is a boob he is to me nothing more than an advertisement show. Depends on who is paying the bill is what he likes. I stopped watching him a long time ago.

How is that any different from any of the glossy mags from the news stands? They love every aftermarket item they're given to test. You can't even read between the lines with most of them. All is great. Thats why all of my subscriptions have lapsed and I have no incentive to renew them. Last year my wife actually bought 2 editions of one because my jeep was plastered all over an article on All-4-Fun. When you're young and stupid, you're really thrilled by that kind of thing. Then after a while you realize you can see your jeep outside the house. And on your own photos. Maybe its not so great to be associated with the writers. One of the worst things to happen on an organized trail ride is to be approched by a writer that wants to "jump in front" so he can photograph his subject. What that means is that the entire ride will be held up multiple times while he gets out, poses a picture (say it ain't so, posed pix in a magazine!), then takes bracket shots, then loads his gear up for the next little opportunity. And they get really upset when you pass them (after all, they've got the show jeep.) So while I realize that advertising drives the business and the hobby, I want to be as far away from the media as I can get. I can rant for hours on this subject. I have not had the experiance of a large trail ride like that. Only one I have gone on was Trail Jam with the PNW4WDA and I guess we didn't rate a media coverage. I understand the business of it but the thing I dont care for with him is it seems to be all infommercial to me all the time. A show about products say every 2 or 3 out five is ok but not every show.
As far as the mags go I only pick one up now if there something that interests me in it. I do my shopping online. I do watch some of the 4x4 shows out there because their sell also has info I can use like installing things and new products and they entertain me Meyers doesn't. 2005 Unlimited Rubicon Sahara 1992 YJ with stuff |
