well ive been in my 2nd accident on my motorcycle now in the past 2 yrs. its time to sale. this time i was cut off going about 50 while on a freeway exit. a car decided it wanted into my lane about 1.5 seconds before i would hit it so i broke real hard. unfortunately it was on a low curve and when i broke my bike sucked out from under me sending me to the asphalt shoulder first. i blacked out for most of the fall but came out of it when i was sliding about 20 mph on my helmet and left elbow. i have 2 fractures all the way through on my left collarbone and about 1 ft of deep road rash. needless to say i am not riding anymore.
the guy that cut me off didnt stop for my accident. i had to finish the 3 block drive home and when i staggered in i had to collect myself and then drive myself in the jeep 5 miles to the ER where both my gf and mother work. i was in shock and vomiting when i got there but i had to do what i had to do. that was 4 days ago and now im in a sling and hurting with the rash and vicodin and anti-inflamatories are my friend. ill be in a figure of 8 for about 8-12 weeks.
all in the name of high gas prices... back to the gas hog tj.. at least im alive. oh and the resale on the bike is like 4500 and i owe the bank 6k... nice huh!? Frown

Woah! Very glad you're alive and well enough to write in. I love bikes but I'm scared to death to even get on one for that very reason.

Get well soon bud! Do we need to change your name from brokenUjoint to brokenShoulderJoint?

glad to hear you made it out with 'minor' injury Smile

For that very reason I'm still hesitant on getting a bike (and I've got enough money pouring projects and rigs already Wink)

got back from the Ortho today. another examination of the xrays and surgery is a must. the bones arent touching so this thurs i get to get knifed. my shoulder is about 1.5 inches shorter than the other one and now my back keeps spasming due to the misalignment. recovery time is still about 8-10 wks. freaking great. i've spent all of my savings that i had for my Golen motor from being out of work and now i cant wait for my disability to come in.... Sorry to hear about the accident, dude - but very glad that you're ok. Something very similar happened to me on my first bike, but I was lucky enough to have a grass field nearby to bounce into. You can never be too careful with all the idiots on the road these days. Get well soon and keep your head up!

brokenUjoint:

I don't think we've ever "spoken" directly but I've benefitted from many of your posts. Thank you for that.

You probably don't want to hear this now but I'm happy you *will recover* from these injuries. Yes, you won't be exactly the same, but you still have an unlimited (as far as any of us know) trail in front of you. It's far better to face surgery & physical therapy than a "long stern chase" with terminal illness.

Financially speaking, I've been up & down myself. But I know I can always make more money -- I can *never* make more time. I'm sorry about the expenses but you'll recover from that, too.

Not trying to sound too goody-goody -- I'm actually hoping this little reminder might just lift your spirits a bit. Hang in there, buddy.

blkjk,

Thanks alot for the kind words. You almost sound like a family memeber the way you put things. And about 2 yrs ago i also went for a "field trip". 3 days after TDS i was coming home with a new steering gear box in my back pack and it was a VERY dark and twisty street. i took a curb while trying to get around a curve at about 60 and went for a nice 30 ft fly. thank God the pack flew off my back or i'd probably be paralyzed w/a broken back. i tweaked my knee but otherwise nothing. bike was #$$$#'d though.
this time the bike is nearly perfect and i got the butt of it. As you can see its 4:40 am and im up with anxiety. not my 1st surgery but i made the mistake of searching online and looking at surgical proceedures. wish i hadnt cuz now im scared.Im sure things will work out, and once again, thanks for the words'.

Hang in there bro. I have been exactly where you are today. In '88 I was in a devistating murdercycle wreck at Ft. Bragg, N.C.
I broke my left arm in 4 places, 3 teeth and my right leg at the knee.

Here's the bottom line:
bones heal, chicks dig scars and the United States of America has the best Dr. to Daredevil ratio in the world! Smile

It's going to be ok tough guy, you've made it this far! Rockcrawler

Geez, the least they could do was give you some anti-anxiety meds...hey, the worst part is usually the fasting the night before! Wink

You probably won't see this until after -- best of luck & *do* let us know how things turn out.
