For you non-pickers, that stands for Guitar Aquisition Syndrome! Big Grin
I'm fixing to go off the deep end and order one of these in the next few weeks.

Yes, I'm currently accepting donations! I may also have a couple of items up for sale. So if any of you are in need of a really nice Stratocaster, let me know.

KerryP wins! It's a Harp Guitar (This one belongs to a friend of mine.). These originally began to make a showing around the 1890's, into the early 1900's. And now there are a small handfull of luthiers building them once again. The upper strings are used for drone notes, and also will sound due to sympathetic vibration. So yes, they have a very unique and cool sound to them. The hard part (other than parting with $3k-$4k) is waiting 4 months or so for it to be built. Good thing is, it's built to my specs. Big Grin Sonokoling Rosewood for the back and sides, flamed Koa for the bindings, and Bearclaw Spruce for the top, and gold tuners. The rest is still in the works.

PRS makes a sweet axe, but doesn't fit into my game plan these days. And, my electrics haven't seen daylight in months, so they're up for grabs in the "For Sale" section. If you need a nice *Strat* Jason, let me know!

Not much for strats, I can appreciate them, but they just don't do much for me.

BTW.. I think that strat is older than me, that would be odd.

I understand. Ya gotta find the guitar that fits YOU. I also have a 1965 Gibson, and a 1963 Fender amp. But no guitars older than I am. Wink

Custom built guitars don't come cheap. There is one builder here in the states that starts his harp guitars at $5k! I've played standard 6 string acoustics from custom builders (Somebody else owned them!) that cost well over $3500. The cost of the woods alone will scare the socks of you!
So yeah, it's a LOT of oney. But....you get an instrument that fits your exact wants and needs. Built to what you specify, NOT what you happen to find hanging in the average guitar shop. How many people have said you're nuts for spending a bunch of money building your Jeep??? Big Grin

Heheh...no offense taken Jason. Big Grin Just like our Jeeps, some folks have no idea what musical instruments can cost. Like you said, they think we're nuts to spend so much money!
I got bit by the harp guitar bug about 5 years ago. And I've been wanting a custom made guitar as well. So I decided to kill two birds with one stone.

Good for you! Three words of advice...practice, practice, practice. Big Grin Which is what I need to spend more time doing myself. Especially once the harp guitar arrives. I'll have to learn to play bass and guitar at the same time!!! Eek

You tell me when it is and I will try to be there. I have wanted to go for a long time. I know someone who is really interested in the sound that thing makes. is there a wave file on with the harp guitar on it? I would love to have him hear that thing. And heck me too!
