After 7 years of being a Jeep owner, I sold it this last week. I bought it new in 1999 drove it 102k miles and learned a ton about wheeling. I lost interest in it about a month ago and only started it to move it on street sweeping days. I decided that I wanted something a bit more practical, but yet something I could still wheel. I wanted something that I could fit our future family in and yet look cool.
Enter my 1997 Toyota 4 Runner SR5 V6, 5 Speed. It's got an Old Man Emu lift, TJM winch bumper, Surco Safari rack and every option inside. Yeah, I went to an IFS rig, but it's going to still be a pretty capable ride. I'll add rock sliders and front and rear ARB's over time and with the Toyota reliablility, it'll run for a long time.
Aw man, sad to hear its gone... That was a cool little TJ. I like the 'Runner tough! I have been wanting to build a rig simalr to that, I got rid of the Land Rover and bought a 2006 Ranger 4WD as my DD. The Land Rover was KILLING me on gas! Im thinking a mild lift with some 33's Eton E-locker in the rear, it already has 4.10 gears (no LSD) a Can-back bed shell and it should be a pretty good looking and campatable rig.
------------------------------ 93 YJ, 35" MT/Rs, 5.5" lift, HP D44 front, D44 rear, 4:1 tera low, locked, geared, dented and scarred.
06 Ranger 4x4.

Don't think I would have had my Jeep as long as I have if I didn't have an F-250 parked outside. When I first drove to Alaska, from AZ, I did it in my Ford. My TJ was good for everything within 250 miles but anything longer and the Ford got fueled up. The X drove a Honda...
man im glad my rig is paid off and done for the most part in way of modifications. sure gets expensive. i dont know the 1st thing about 4 runners, but it looks nice anyways. ( i sound like a chick huh)

It IS nice. That's one reason I sold the TJ to get it. It's nice to be able to wheel it and take a long road trip and be comfortable. This too, will be a real wheeler, one piece at a time.
Congrat's on the Yota! We've had Toyota trucks since '85. Our 95 T100 now has 325,000 miles and still going. It's been rode hard and put up wet for most all of it's life too. I almost parted with the YJ over a '67 Camaro last month, but snapped to my senses just in time!
Last night, I bought a 2005 Unlimited Rubicon Sahara. It has 1,500 miles on it and looks like it rolled off the showroom floor. It has an automatic and a soft top.
