I've been lucky so far and haven't had to deal with this, but I've been wondering who's had good luck with what companies? Between trail carnage and all the accessories we add I'm sure there are some companies that don't want to pay out when needed. Who's had good experiences and who's had horror stories?

Thanks,
Mark

Insurance varies state to state.. what works great for someone in WA may not cover anything in TX.

And even within the same company they may have different policy declarations which limit claims or use of the vehicle.

The important things to do is read the policy and all declarations.. ask specific questions and make sure your covered.

For example in Texas I have MetLife.. it was relativly inexpensive and they covered all of my aftermarket add-ons and I could drive "off-road".

When I moved to CO my MetLife policy went up over $1000...

As I started looking for new insurance some of the company declarations pages I read dis-allowed claims made while driving on "un-improved roads" (which would include almost all FS class "trails" and BLM etc)... others would not cover any vehicle that had been modified from manufacturers specs.

I ended up using e-Surance but as I said even their policies vary by state and underwriter.

Just my $0.02

i deal with insurance agents daily. i'd go with state farm, nationwide, or others simular. i'd stay away from liberty mutual, met life, farmers, progressive. i've seen them hound people to not put in a claim and stretch out a simple 5 min phone call into 45 minutes try to discourage them. state farm and nationwide seem the easiest to deal with from what i've seen but there others just cant remember them all right now lol too many out there

I would disagree that Nationwide is easy to deal...well, maybe if they are providing insurance for you, but if you are hit by anyone insured by them, it is a PAIN to get a decent (and fair) settlement out of them and they call often to try and settle...

I agree with what Pagan said - it varies state to state...it also depends upon the agent. I had Farmers for years but ended up firing them after my accident (not my fault) in 2001. The agent I had in CO was more knowledgable than the one I had in NC. Then I ended up with Kemper, which was a pretty good insurance...but now that I'm back in CO, I have Country insurance. One of the first things I asked was if trail damage was covered, and I was told yes...but then again, that could just be my agent.

Best deal is to shop around and see what's out there and find what is best for you..

Squid tell us where you live, that way people who have rigs in your state can add their experiences.
