just wondering...any of you/us are into atvs/fourwheelers???

i know we are about to undergo a change in bbs but... Rockcrawler has boards for mountain bikes and r/c cars...what about quads???. the reason im bringing this up is because im getting one!

let me tell you the whole story...since ive nothing better to do. Smile

im getting married(in about a year)!!! ive convinced my fiance that i need to spend a big nickel(lots of $$$) on my hobby of off-roading/rockcrawling. well she says thats fine... but we need to get out of debt first and then still save for the wedding. fine! ive figured a way to eliminate $600(roughly) a month! woo hoo. which(if everything goes as planned) will be accomplished by the end of february. so i start thinking of what i could do to my rubi with $600 a month. then i realize that i have to pay for a wedding too. **** IT!!! well ive figured it all out!!! ever since ive known my fiance shes wanted a 4wheeler. about eight months ago i convinced her that, instead of an atv,we get a jet ski...since we live so close to a lake. well due to my powers of persuasion she accepted that idea. however affording such a toy and keeping the house/furniture/jeep/her new car/dogs and cat/ect.... would not be possible. so...more to the point! she likes atvs! my dad,who lives in kentucky, who wants to do some father/son bonding, wants an atv! i have no more friends, that are reasonably close, that have jeeps and/or like to off-road. i now, however have many new friends that own atvs. about ten! not to mention my girl and my dad. so i figure i can kill two birds(maybe more) with one stone. i get a 4wheeler. the wife to be is happy. i still get to go offroad. its cheaper (about $100 a month and no broken jeep parts!),my dad and i get closer, and the little lady is happy! an important fact...shes ridden these things forever! i mean she loves them!!!

allright,i know, i know. youre saying, "jesus age christ, why am i reading this?"

well ive decided that we(i) am getting a honda foreman...

so the whole (real) point of the post is to get your opinions and to see if any of you/us own or have experience with atvs!?!?!? and also to see if mike will add atvs to the line up of bbs. that way i can still be up to date with rockrawling/jeeps,etc. and at the same time post and read about atvs.

im basically just looking for info and maybe some more buddies to ride with. understand that i have almost no atv experience! every time ive gone 4wheelin with danielle(my fiance), i have been her biatch! im really excited about this sport and i fully intend to "get into it!" i will never forget my roots, but my main hobby (jeeps/rockcrawling) will have to take a back seat until im more finacialy sound... or old like 4x4pete,or willieg,or pueblo... sorry..no offense gentleman!!! Cool

anyway...let the advise...opinions...insults...curses begin.

later

i have a suzuki 230 quad sport, I love it! Big Grin
I would love to see a board for atv's( hint, hint) dennis and pueblo, and the rest of the texas crawl 2 saw mine, unfortunately, they wouldn't let me ride it in the 4x4 park. Frown, but we had fun anyways! jason a word of advise, keep mama happy! and life is cheaper without pets!

what type of ridding do you plan to do? personally i would get the suzuki quadsport 400 or the kawi version if i want ed a sport bike from what i've seen out at the dry lake they eat all simalarly sized quads up(except non stock banshee's), if you want a utillity 4x4 quad i would look at the polaris sportsman or the 700 twin!! i have a 98 magnum 425 does 55 mph is 4x4 has high low auto 1 lever brakes and it pulled my 20 foot boat around the yard/house fine never broke still the orignal belt dad even mounted a riffle rack to it for elk hunting. hth

THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS!!

yup and even cheaper without a wife! hehe

anyway... a couple of my friends have a few hundred acres of hunting property that ill primarily be riding on. theres tons of orv parks and such in ga. not to mention trails behind my subdivision(on some guys farm). one of the big motivaters of this purchase is my dad. hes looking to spend like a week or so out in the woods. this is what we have in mind...

My experience is only sport quads, I used to have a Banshee, milled head, toomeys etc.. great for the local desert and sand dunes. That said what purpose is the quad for? the big, heavy ones only look like they are good for hunting, farm tool etc.. and do not look like that much fun for all around riding. The new 4-stroke 450 sport bikes look like fun though Cool

IM GONNA BE RIDING IN THE WOODS MOSTLY. MAYBE SOME ROCKS HERE OR THERE. I DOUBT ILL EVER TAKE IT TO A TRACK. IVE ONLY RIDDEN A FEW TIMES AND IT WAS FUN. THE PLACES IM LIKLEY TO GO RIDING SEEM LIKE THEY WOULD BE BAD FOR A SPORT QUAD. I CAN IMAGINE THAT CHAIN GETS CAUGHT ON A LOT OF THINGS IN THE WOODS.

BESIDES...THE WIFE TO BE DOESNT WANT (READ: WONT LET ME GET)A SPORT QUAD. HER ARGUMENT IS THAT THEYRE MORE DANGEROUS.

ANYWAY...

A funny thing happened just the other day... I was watching this ATV TV show on the outdoor channel, and low-and-behold.... There's my buddy Ray, doing a story! I used to ride with this dude all the time. He was the outdoor/hunting editor for The ATV Connection. I used to help those guys out with tests and stuff. Heck, I even did a couple articles for them. I was really into ATVs back then.

But times change... My back couldn't handle riding anymore. So I sold my quad. It turns out to be one of the best things that could have happened to me. I didn't realize how much time i was spending away from the family, between work and ATVing, until I was stuck at home. Which is why I turned to Jeeping as a hobby. I can take my wife and kids along when they want to go.

cool!! thank goodness for dvr! ive been recording that show since it comes on in the middle of the day on mondays. thanks for the link but ive already run across it. as popular as atving seems to be there isnt a quarter as much info when compared to jeeps/rockrawling/offroading. i guess everyone IStoo busy riding to post or write good articles. i just picked up the latest issue of atv rider and theres a story in there from last year! oh well!

i say buy a couple bicycles, look at how much bonding that could bring, pedal a while, walk awhile, coast awhile. and can store them just about anywhere, and not many people steals bikes anymore value dropped bad when they came out with power wheels, just a thought, Smile
