My dad calls me the other night and wants to know what a 7.4L big block Chevy motor is. "454,why?" "Some guy just gave me one."
Ok, so I'm figuring a basket case, but no, its a complete running engine! We have a '70 2WD 1/2ton truck, a '75 3/4ton 4WD Truck, and a '70 Nova SS/4 speed. We have another '70 Nova SS but its numbers matching so its staying as is. The "other" Nova (as its refered to) was an original 396 car but has a 283/T5 in it. Both trucks are 350/automatics, and are both daily driven. I don't know which small block to toss. |

Hand over the 454, and I'll give you a 258. Fair trade right? At this point the question is "how originial do you want to keep your toys"? Do you want them for value or for play? If someone handed me a 454 I would build from there and make a buggy, or throw it in the jeep. I do have a 460 7.5L laying around but I am just waiting for a small domestic car to come my way that I can put it in. Point of the story is you might have to wait like me to find 'exactly' what you want to do.

And the winner is... The '75 3/4 ton! I guess he got the TH400 that was with it too, not sure what we'll do with it though. The engine came out of a big honkin' motorhome and even the motormounts look the same. Rock On!!!
