Just recently I have read several very disturbing news articles. First one has to do with thanksgiving the other christmas
Kids in can thank everyone except God for thanksgiving. Apparently the school district thought it might offend some students if they thanked God for thanksgiving. read the story here I think the shool board needs to learn their history lesson again.. Havent they ever read the mayflower compact "In the name of God, Amen. We, whose names are underwritten, the Loyal Subjects of our dread Sovereign Lord, King James, by the Grace of God, of England, France and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, e&. Having undertaken for the Glory of God, and Advancement of the Christian Faith, and the Honour of our King and Country, a voyage to plant the first colony in the northern parts of Virginia; do by these presents, solemnly and mutually in the Presence of God and one of another, covenant and combine ourselves together into a civil Body Politick, for our better Ordering and Preservation, and Furtherance of the Ends aforesaid; And by Virtue hereof to enact, constitute, and frame, such just and equal Laws, Ordinances, Acts, Constitutions and Offices, from time to time, as shall be thought most meet and convenient for the General good of the Colony; unto which we promise all due submission and obedience. In Witness whereof we have hereunto subscribed our names at Cape Cod the eleventh of November, in the Reign of our Sovereign Lord, King James of England, France and Ireland, the eighteenth, and of Scotland the fifty-fourth. Anno Domini, 1620." -- Mayflower Compact, 1620 Heres some more just for fun "[They] fell upon their knees and blessed ye God of heaven, who had brought them over ye vast and furious ocean." -- William Bradford's account of the Pilgrims' first action upon making safe harbor in Cape Cod, 1620 "Our harvest being gotten in, our Governor sent four men on fowling so that we might, after a special manner, rejoice together after we had gathered the fruit of our labors. They four in one day killed as much fowl as... served the company almost a week... Many of the Indians [came] amongst us and... their greatest King, Massasoit, with some ninety men, whom for three days we entertained and feasted; and they went out and killed five deer, which they brought... And although it be not always so plentiful as it was at this time with us, yet by the goodness of God we are... far from want." - Pilgrim Edward Winslow, 1621 "The God of Israel is among us.....He shall make us a praise and glory, that men shall say of succeeding plantations: 'The Lord make it like that of New England." -- John Winthrop, Pilgrim and founder of Massachusetts Bay Colony, 1630 "Inasmuch as the great Father has given us this year an abundant harvest of Indian corn, wheat, peas, beans, squashes, and garden vegetables, and has made the forests to abound with game and the sea with fish and clams, and inasmuch as He has protected us from the ravages of the savages, has spared us from pestilence and disease, has granted us freedom to worship God according to the dictates of our own conscience. Now I, your magistrate, do proclaim that all ye Pilgrims, with your wives and ye little ones, do gather at ye meeting house, on ye hill, between the hours of 9 and 12 in the day time, on Thursday, November 29th, of the year of our Lord one thousand six hundred and twenty three and the third year since ye Pilgrims landed on ye Pilgrim Rock, there to listen to ye pastor and render thanksgiving to ye Almighty God for all His blessings." -- William Bradford's second Thanksgiving Decree, 1623 It makes me wonder what our schools our tyring to teach kids. Its definately not history... And the latest one has to do with an anual parade in colorado. Apparently a local church group wanted to march in the parade in denver but were banned from doing so not because they were preaching, handing out tracks or trying to convert people.. All they were doing was singing christmas carols. You know the ones, Joy to the world, Silent night. Stuff everyone pretty much grew up on. The parade organizers were afraid christmas carols might offend someone because they mention God. Oh yah even better the Mayor of Denver John Hickenlooper even went as far to remove the sign on the city building that said Merry Christmas! They are replacing it with a more "politically correct" one that says happy holidays instead. The whole story can be found here in case you havent noticed, did you know that the Macys stores no longer have sings that say Marry Christmas either? Something to think about... That's one reason I couldn't just get the regular smallish figure nativity scene this year. I had to spring for the 5 feet tall ones. I built a stable for them too: 10ft wide by 9ft tall. People who stop and see our lights won't be able to easily ignore what Christmas really means. I figure if you aren't pissing off the ACLU, you aren't doing something right.

Maybe I'm missing something here, and I say this WITHOUT PREJUDICE (that'll get people reading
- Jews can call Hanukkah just that, and celebrate it as such - same goes for Kwanzaa, and nothing wrong with that, so - why does everyone get their knickers in a twist when the Christians try to celebrate Christmas? As I said, perhaps I'm just naive. It's hardly the celebration of diversity that this country prides itself on; to me it's rather a denial of recognition of basic differences and choosing not to accept that it's the interface of those differences (ethnicity, belief, whatever) that can create wonderful things. Oh well, I've mentioned 'differences' so that'll probably 'p**s off a bunch. We can't belong to anything, nor can we appear to be able to celebrate anything anymore, such is our wonderfully inclusive society. All together now: "Bah humbug" <rant> end </rant> 88 XJ, millions of miles...... |

In the obsurd world of political corectness, we are no longer allowed to do anything less than pumping sunshine up everybody's backside at full tilt boogie. We shall not do anything that may offend other individuals. We shall do everything in our power to inflate their ego.
Even the lowly criminals who steal, rape, murder, and otherwise commit felony acts against the law abiding citizens of our country, shall have more rights under the criminal justice system than those whom the crime was commited against. They shall be allowed to get degrees, and make countless dollars writing books while IN PRISON. Yet the state shall not be entitled to a single penny of the profits. Instead of people taking responsibility for their own actions, they shall seek legal council, and sue some innocent individual for thousand of dollars. And WIN! Those who do not believe in a supreme being, or God, shall have the right to silence those who do instead of simply gathering with other like-minded individuals. Much like those who do believe in God and a supreme being gather in like masses to worship in the manner thay see fit. Our FOUNDING FATHERS must have been certified lunatics to think they could get away with establishing a country on the faith and belief in God and Christianity. Maybe they learned a bit from the earlier crusades to this continent where non-believers were burned to death for not converting to a religion they did not need, nor want? Belief in a *Creator* is common all over the world. He has many names, many purposes, many directions, yet ultimatly one goal. There's a song by an old aquaintence of mine called "Conversation With The Devil". In it, he asks Satan, "...Which religion is the truest?" And Satan answers, "Buddah was not a Christian, but Jesus would have made a good Buddist." Kwanzaa didn't even originate in Africa from my understandings. Nor does it have to do with any diety worshiped by the African people. (But I could be wrong.) Hanukkah....Not being Jewish, I do not celebrate it. Yet I do respect the beliefs of those who do. It is a part of their faith. I can respect those who believe in no one when they, in turn, respect my beliefs. Who, or what ever an individual wishes to believe in, or not believe in is their choice. They may suggest it to me. Even discuss it with me. But DO NOT try to shove it down my throat, or otherwise force it upon me. If we do not wish to travel the road of others, then we should seek one of our own which suits our needs. All religions think they are correct in the interpretation of The Bible. Just as those who worship Satan believe they are doing the right thing. With so many variances, who really is correct? We'll all have to wait to find the answer to that question according to Revalation! Sad part I have to wonder is....Just how many kids can tell you what we celebrate at Christmas, or even Easter. I'm glad to have grown up in a time when we had morning prayer in our public schools. Though not overly religious, I still feel there is somebody up there that likes to hear from us on a regular basis! So think on this. When a time comes we can no longer mention the name of God or Jesus, nor pray to them in public; How much longer will we be allowed to celebrate the birth of Jesus? Or his resurrection? How much time will pass until we can no longer worship our God as we see according to our religion? Which one of the freedoms granted by our Founding Fathers will fall next? When I was young, there was a cool comedy show done by Red Skelton. The very last words he spoke at the end of EVERY show were, "May God bless." |

I live in Denver and I have to say that I am amazed at how many people are getting their panties in a wad over the mayor wanting to change "Merry Christmas" to "Happy Holidays" Personally, I see nothing wrong with it as it is more encompassing of ALL religions that are celebrating some sort of holiday this season. I'm not sure when the sign was changed, but I remember going there as a kid and it did NOT say Merry Christmas but rather "Seasons Greetings" Another thing that is said during this season (by Christians) is "Peace on Earth, Goodwill to Men" but when you see the way they act to others, it is not what they really mean...and before I get flamed, I am Christian as well, but I also think (and have been taught) that Christians respect others regardless of what their beliefs are or how different they are. Personally, I enjoy learning about other religions and seeing how those beliefs do or don't fit in with my beliefs and values...and uh, where does it say you can't say Merry Christmas? Saying that to others is pretty much covered under the 1st Amendment since it IS freedom of speech
and Dennis - as for prayer in schools, whenever I have kids, I'd prefer it to be MY responsibility to teach my kids religion, not the schools...just my .02 though... |
