Alright lets play the noise game again, this isn't something thats broken but here's what i got. 98' Sahara 4.0, auto tranny. I recently installed a tera 4" lift and it seems there is a "chirping" noise in the dash somewhere, it makes the noise when im moving but not while parked or stopped at a light. It seriously sounds like a cricket in my dash somewhere, or it could be on the outside. Any ideas? I have the t-case lowering kit, could that have caused the noise? Any input will put my ears at ease thank you.

Try it in 4 hi and low maybe? Could be the tcase shifter rubbing on something.

Good luck,
Mark

Thanks for the advice squid, thats a different subject too, I tried putting it in 4wheel while driving and its definately not that, like its above where my knees are but behind the steering wheel, if I could i would look under there while driving.
On to the other subject, my tcase makes a lot of noise like a dry bearing noise, and its even louder in 4hi, is that normal?

I've torn my dash apart many times installing electrical things, the only thing mechanical in there is the steering column and the pedal linkages. It may be a loose piece of plastic rubbing or something like that, try pulling the dash piece under the steering wheel and going for a drive to see if you can hear it better, and also squit a few drops of oil on the few moving bits in there. Since you lifted it, you probably have some more vibration and that'll make some more things rattle. If the level of noise from the t-case is the same as before you lifted it, that's just the usual chain drive noise they make. If it's increased since the lift, then you may have loose parts under there, or maybe a driveline angle issue increasing the load on it. My wife's 97 TJ makes a bunch of strange noises compared to my 03, when she complains, I tell her to turn up the radio until something breaks! Big Grin

Happy 4th,
Mark

Mine did it for a little while. I took it to the dealership since I hadn't changed anything yet and they told me it was the heater blower motor making noise. They changed it out and the noise stopped. I don't know it that was the cause though. They could have bumped/messed with something while they were working on it.

I had this problem as well. I removed the top added 38" TSL's and 2.5" exhaust with headers The squeek went away. Or maybe it's still there I just can't hear it anymore. Cool Rockcrawler

I know this was already mentioned about tearing the dash apart and still not finding a certain noise. I took everything out of my dash today and drove around to find it really was my 4wheel shifter. This is the second post I have put up where im asking what kind of noise this is and find out its somthing simple. However, is there a way to eliminate this noise? I grab it and push it down a little and it goes away but when it wants to be loud it wont hold back.

As far as the t-case bearing noise... what size allen head do I use to take the plugs out to drain it? Im pretty sure its just the chain drive but can never be too careful before it gets away from me.
